A long while ago, Star Citizen, the first fully crowd funded game to be made which Behaviour is partly working on made a poll on character names. The vast majority of voters said they didn't want silly names in game like "xX VaPeX Xx", instead realistic names will be the only option for players. I was wondering if the EC community felt the same way. Would you want to see Space Marines with non-canonical names like the example above, or would you prefer to see more canon compliant names?
I don't think the best solution for this problem is to use only "canonical" names, i would say that let everyone have whatever name they want but i would like tha behaviour add an option to hide names or just to show the names of the members of your unit.
Its the persons choice in the end, but I for one will be using a canonical name for when the game is released.
I'm unsure on whether such a thing can be enforced in EC as it is a FTP game, but I was curious about the community's stance on the matter.
The very first MMO I played back in 2000, Everquest, had a naming policy, and I don't ever recall it being an issue with the player base. Nor was it an issue for the GMs to reinforce.... so I wonder what's happened since 2000, why developers and/or game producers just threw in the towel and gave way to "xxxXXXLeeet SkillzzzXXXxxx" and "xxXXPwnsUrFaceXXxx" as being acceptable character/player names in their MMOs.
Uhm sorry but what do you mean by canonical name? If what you are saying that a space wolf should have a name like Bjorn i would say no, but if you are saying that at least there should be restrictions on grammar of names against possibilities like J1_1STK1LM3H i am your supporter.
EC account name should be the player name (it's appear in game). Characters, that player has on server, should be named canonically.
People should be free to choose what ever they like. Just have a report button, for the truly retarded.
I don't think it's a great idea to limit someone to just canonical names. That's the player's choice. That said, I'll be using a canonical name in-game.
