  1. Recently (earlier today) I kind of came to the conclusion that my name might be taken as slightly racist...

damn, seems that i forgot too much from my polish :( nothing comes to my mind by "Zhull"

didn't know that this will be possible.

thanks @search :D i agree with you and disabling/hiding names would be nice.

I dont really have to see others names i.e my enemies. If i have to know an enemy than at first by his doings (dont know if its the right word for this. :D) then i maybe would like to know who the hell pisses me off so i can bring him death.:D

As for disabling names - a nice idea would be for rp if a name could be "released" to others. i.e. from the point when a battle brother itroduce himself to you and "release" his name it will be displayed for you.
i know its extra effort and so on but its only an idea that i wanted to mention. A little cherry on top.
I liked it back in the ol'days in Ultima online.

One one hand, this keeps me from getting irritated at all the stupid, unoriginal names and their nearly infinite variations that I see.
One the other hand, it keeps me from being able to direct my ire upon these individuals. (I am that asshole in Space Marine that farms Grudge kills off people with stupid names. All I've got left is the Destroy the Weak! challenge.)

    So either way, I guess.

@Zhull: I always thought your name was a Ghostbusters reference, and will continue to do so because that movie is cool.

I hope you don't think Asurael sounds stupid then, that might have kept me safe from some grudge kills xD.

And I thought the same thing about Zhull, so I concur.

No, I mean like there will be some lame nincompoop who's in-game handle is xXxDrizzzt6969xXx or MarcusFeenixx or blah blah Master Chief blah blah whatever.
  6. The very first MMO I played, Everquest, back in 2000, they had the balls to have a very strict naming policy. Oh yeah, and that game was hard(as in challenging) and didn't spoon feed you content. Since then, I've rarely seen a game producer have the courage or commitment to enforce a naming policy. Most care more about $$ than the reputation of their game.

I hope Behavior takes a stand and has a "zero tolerance" policy when it comes to character names. If players truly can NOT come up with a suitable name, have a name generator available at the character creation screen. If anything the name generator can give players ideas and spinoffs to come up with an original, suitable character name.

  7. Stupid names used to offend me for some reason; as I got older and wiser I've realized it doesn't really matter what stupid name people use. I've come across so many in LoL now that I've become desensitized; Xx or xX names did cheese me off back when I played multiplayer on the 360 and nonsensical names bothered me in WoW but for different reasons.

I say anyone should be allowed to call their character/account whichever name they wish so long as it isn't racist, offensive or hateful. Either or not their allowed to call their character certain names due to GW ownership of characters will come down to the developers decision, for instance it would violate the lore if someone is allowed to call themselves "The Emperor".

One of the reasons people use weird writing on their names is because their name is already taken. It would be cool if EC allowed players to use repeated character names, as it can happen in real life. It's only the account name that needs to be different. Players could be notified that their desired character name is repeated but still choose to use it anyway.

I'd be all for a strict naming policy, but after years of playing on 'RP' servers in MMOs I've just stopped caring at this point. There's only so much being laughed at by thirteen-year-old kids on characters named 'Poopytoes' you can take before you concede defeat. At least I still have my pride, damn it!

Going to be honest, I'd probably still laugh if I died to an Eldar banshee named 'Poo Bandit.' In this world of fashionable cynicism and overused sarcasm it is the most childish things which occasionally still hit home.

While I would like lore appropriate names, I also realize that unless this name generator is absolutely massive, it'll eventually run dry and will leave uncreative types screwed. I figure people'll do their own thing anyhow at that point, if not sooner.

Just give me the ability to right click them if shit's gone south so I don't have to retype any nonsense they may go through with their name.

I'll try to name my characters something fitting, but there's a fair chance (read: Incredibly high) that if I make an eldar, I'll name him/her something absolutely ridiculous once inspiration strikes.

So if you see some eldar running around nude trying to club people with a rifle named MissingMyGimli or something idiotic, it's most likely me being a moron
