I completely agree, I've been vocal about the clunkiness since months ago. I personally think it's THE biggest problem this game has, even more so than the melee. Movement is way to tank like, constantly running into walls, getting stuck on a 4 inch rock on the floor etc. But as I said in the lock-on thread, this is what we are stuck with. With a few days from release, we are to deep into it for a major overhaul such as this. They chose to not listen or want to change it regardless of the post and protest which is their choice and this is what we have to deal with now. I appreciate your passion for the game Hodor and all the changes you want to see happen but seriously, it's over this is it. We will be lucky to get a few new features and MAYBE elite units at most. Perhaps the world map to open up a bit but that's the best case scenario. Alpha is over in about a week, it's done, all the core game play elements are in. We need to be asking for realistic goals like, increase the bolter ammo capacity by 10 (only an example).
I just want a good Warhammer game. T_____T But ya, I remember those posts you had about the terrain issues. I was sad that it didn't really come up in DJ penguin's Q&A though Nathan did mention some slight changes to levels and touch ups. So it is possible just have to stay vocal about it... Which is what I do. :3 Even Zoran The Bear had mentioned a couple times about the clunkiness and character movement. Now it DID get a small touch up a few patches ago and characters did move a bit better (most notably Eldar) but the constant moving 2 steps in any direction when you tap the keyboard still persists. Maybe if we get a popular streamer on board we can get them to touch the game up in the crucial areas that affect gameplay like getting stuck on walls, terrain, and not being able to shoot through windows.
What? i'm pretty sure there are more than 4v4 in pvp, it's 16v16 if i'm not mistaken, and when the official servers were up it wasn't laggy at all... Edit, or maybe it was 12v12, i don't remember exactly, battles weren't huge but they sure were more than 4v4, this and the smaller maps always made the games not feel empty...
Old video, still applicable as far as camera angles. The first part of this video covering camera angles shows how unsat the camera gets due character coming into close proximity to objects and terrain. We should never lose sight of our hands and of our weapons. If we cannot see our hands and our weapons, we have no idea which direction our character is facing and it's impossible to participate in the game at this point. This is also why Auto-aim needs to go cuz it screws up the camera angle so bad but is needed currently due to how buggy and "jumpy" melee is. But ya, the camera in this game is atrocious. That's why I refer to Space Marine and Gears of War as both those games had a good camera angle for cover and aiming down sights. Also as shown in the video, the lighting effects and UI clutter when you get shot is INSANE. Its still this way in game even if you tone down the graphics. I also play with lowest graphic settings as some of the areas are extremely dark like in that video above. I can't see shit, so I turn the shadows/lighting all the way (not only for better fps) but also so I can see wtf is going on and spot targets easier. After they tone down the screen shaking in the game they need to revisit the camera angle. Right now its a huge disaster and really ruins melee gameplay.
Though I can't comment on the other points in this thread, you can expect the banners to become semi-transparent in certain camera configurations to avoid obstructing the view in the next build.
Really? Have yet to see that. Game still has a lot of crap going on around your screen whenever something happens and it gets more hectic as combat ensues. There's all sorts of additional effects they added that ruin your vision even further like Painboy heal bombs, Warlock/Sorcer heal beams, your gun's fire, screen shake, DUST CLOUDS from basic movement, constant screen flashing, Sunrifles or w/e the swooping hawk weapons are, etc. Also the point caps themselves have an extremely annoying map marker that gets in the way as well as the lighting from the cap point itself. No my friend, they have a long way to go still in terms of player experience on the UI. :| Comparing once again to other games which have a very nice and clean UI that doesn't get too cluttered even when combat starts. Just look at the various Gears of War games. Even Planetside 2 was better than this and you got shot from EVERYWHERE in that game.
SM pvp was 8v8, and it was great as long as all participants are close to each other and have decent broadband connection. EC now suffers from same shit as SM - bullets killing you after you got into cover, teleporting melee, bad resolving of bodyblock, and there is a new addition - uncomfortable camera... Can we also expect aligning camera with shoulder and barrel of the gun? so we could fire straight if there is some obstruction, notably your own teammates, on your right side.
