I think that character customization is SO key in any WH40K because that's one of the greatest pulls to the table top; make your own army and battle others! What would 40K be without the player being able to personalize his or her army or character?

However, I believe that at creation there should not be to many articulated pieces; these should be earned in some way. I am going to use Space Marines (SM) for my examples here. To start players should be able to choose his or her armor 'parts' (arms, chest, shoulder pads, legs, back, knee pads, elbow pads, bracers, hands, helmet, etc.) from, say, Mk. 5, 6, and 7 SM power armor pieces. That leaves Mk 2, 3, 4, and 8 pieces of armor to earn through either in-game accomplishments, or as loot pick ups (I much prefer the accomplishments idea though). This doesn't even include unique pieces that can be found/earned. Maybe all these pieces have some statistical pros and cons

At character creation you could have some chapter specific modifications (chapter logo's or symbols) and chapter trapping like a a blood vial for Blood Angels or a small wolf pelt for Space Wolves or Dark Angel Robes. Through accomplishments these things can be upgraded or replaced; more iconic blood vial, larger pelt, more detailed robes. Maybe you are allowed a chapter back-banner.

Now lets say that Sternguard and Vanguard are advanced classes to achieve to, so why not give some custom parts to represent that that player has achieved the status of such prestige? Why not be able to wear the Crux Terminatus after earning it while out of Terminator armor to show that when the time arises that YOU can wear such a relic? The same could be said about an Iron-Halo. Artificer armor at this point would speak for itself is found/earned.

I would REALLY like to see an achievement system like this that allows you show all other players of your great deeds by wearing those symbols of your deeds into battle.

"MAN, did you see that Sternguard cleansing traitors and xenos with Hellfire rounds in thew name of the Emperor?! HE HAD A CRUX TERMINATUS!!"

This does not just mean Space Marines, but ALL races.

We are not sure yet about all the classes we will have at launch, but the customization system will be tied a lot to your progression. Your appearance should be a way to show quickly your accomplishments as well as your involvement in different areas of the game.

Well, having a whole chapter of marines in completely different armour souns at least strange. There should be a clear similarity between the members of the same class. SM are warriors in the first place, there shouldn't be 2 much showing off.

It's all about customization and looks
Also, people seem to enjoy roleplaying more and more
  5. You saying that there should be different looks depending what chapter, warband, etc. Because if yes then I follow the same idea that there should be certain items depending on what you choose. Example being that you could have a wolf pelt for Space Wolves for some sort of wings for Night Lords.

Thank you for sharing the same sentiment for this type of achievement system. I am so glad that this will be implemented as such, and that you are actually paying attention to our thoughts into an IP we all enjoy. Keep up the great work.

It's one of the major portions of Warhammer 40,000. From the building to the painting
    *fingers crossed*

  8. Will you be able to skip the cosmetic progression through cash shop? (I hope not)

If there is a cash shop option, it shouldn't conflict with progression reward. Still a bit early to say what will be in the cash shop at launch.
