Why does everyone think every sergeant is cruising around with a power sword? Fluff-wise most sergeants are not veteran-sergeants and are equipped with chainswords. If tactical marines are going to be equipped with CCWs it's going to be chainswords at best, they're not supposed to be wading into close combat. That's what assault marines are for.

  2. For the fluff basicly its this : DA : Plasma weapons cuz they are the first legion (and they damn right should be ) Imperial fists ( defending strong points their tenacity is legendary now even the IW could break it. ) Space wolves : Assault squads and heavy bolters. why? Long fangs. most experienced and calm individuals the corgi's can master (they have rage issues so keeping their calm is no small feet. ) Ultramarines : Termi's. Sound weird but their first company is the strongest SM you'll get and they are all termies. hehehehehe Blood angels : Assault marines. NO matter what they'll even use their bolters or pistols as a melee weapon. To be fair. BA will give any CSM a run for their money. so will the DA. but the IF? i dont like them they dont have humour but they are badasses. they NEVER give up. when ur assaulting? call the corig's. massive battlefield? call the damn DA. need a fist fight? call the BA. for anything else. we got the ultamarines

Sorry, have to disagree with you there...

    Definition of tactical
    1. 1: of or relating to combat tactics: such asa (1) : of or occurring at the battlefront a tactical defense a tactical first strike (2) : using or being weapons or forces employed at the battlefront tactical missilesb of an air force : of, relating to, or designed for air attack in close support of friendly ground forces

    2. 2a : of or relating to tactics: such as (1) : of or relating to small-scale actions serving a larger purpose (2) : made or carried out with only a limited or immediate end in viewb : adroit in planning or maneuvering to accomplish a purpose
This would be the Ultra's. They epitomize the jack of all trades master of none nature. It is what they are known for,

This is your friend for all things 40K :)
  4. Fangz Fangz Confessor

Wrong. It is us Dark Angels that has the entire first company as termies, and the best close combat ones at that too.
Smurfs get Sternguards and Vangards. Because Bobby G's Codex for Dummies: Chapter Building.
    Need to review your lore.
    And don't necro threads.

Fangz is quite correct, Dark Angels would be the Terminator, Fast attack and plasma weapons masters of the Space marines in Eternal crusade.

If anything, the only true unique quality the Ultramarines posses is they have a number of talented and seasoned Tyranid Veterans. However, I do think a proper unique ability the Ultramarines would have is an enhanced radius and buff bonus for banners when leading a squad, this would play into the whole we are the best leaders archetype that the Ultramarines enjoy.

Which would fit the bonus Ultramarines got in Deathwatch, their chapter specialities is nobility, and sociability, they can litteraly throw a GM into RAAAAAAAGGGGGGEEEEE because they decided to do a speech to an entire city and they rolled the dice so well they end up launching a crusade of faith.
But still, I admit it's still funny watching those ultramarines players completly explode when they see what all the other chapters get in terms of combat potential, my ultramarine squad leader is still waiting to get all the cheesy melee part I got from the base as a Blood angels.

That isn't totally wrong though. Both of you are correct.

    1) The Ultramarines have enough Tactical Dreadnought Armor to field the entire 1st company as well as several to spare. But as not every combat situation calls for Terminator armor according to the Codex, they do not use it all the time.

This in fact is true for the majority of Codex chapters.

    2) The Deathwing does in fact ONLY use Terminator Armor. No if ands or buts. And due to this they have in fact mastered the art of fighting in said armor better than many chapters. Unfortunately this limits their usefulness in various combat situations as they are not able to adapt to a tactical situation as fluidly as a non Terminator equipped Veteran would be able to in the same situation. But then again, that isn't their purpose. They have a VERY special mission ;-)

And why the hate on necro? it can lead to new people getting involved in a discussion who weren't around when it started.

Hell, I have a player using a Tyranid War vet in Deathwatch, and he is totally bending his character to the leadership role.

And yes, screwing the DM is his favorite game.

  9. Very interesting question. And its not an easy you can see! Everyone has an opinion, and stats for the TT are only stats. Like in EC, its just as much about HOW you use your units as it is their stats. And, too boot, the lore and the TT rarely translate into one cohesive explanation.

Look at the answers your getting, Black Templar's, Blood Angels, Ultramarines, the Fists...its all a matter of opinion, who you like and how you use tactics. I've always been a HUGE fan of the Vlka Fenryka (Space Wolves) and the Dark Angels since the very early 1990's. But they are vastly different legions. There is more consensus on who is weak than who is strong.
