(Surroundings: flat landscape other than slight hills here and there. desert-like. A few wind turbines but nothing else other than the Chaos bunker and trenches. cloudy skies. mostly around the daemon tower as if something evil is brewing) My remaining squad and I take position on one of the few hills in the surrounding landscape with an overlook of the entire battlefield. A voice sounds from my vox, "Lord Leonatos, we have arrived" I look from where we came and saw an estimated 25 Land Raiders speeding toward us as well as squads of Interceptors shunting ever-closer. I look up and see wings of stormraven transports. One stormraven dives down to our position, and unloads a paladin command squad consisting of a color standard bearer, a librarian, an apothecary, and a vox array carried by servitors (The Brother-Captain must be really busy with the space battle to send his paladin squad). It has begun, I think to myself. I walk over to the array and pick up the receiver. "This is Justicar Leonatos speaking to all Grey Knight forces. I am leading this assault. The forces of chaos are in front of us amassing a dark power in that tower. Our objective is to bring that unholy monstrosity crashing down and then reap judgement on any heretic that survives. There is no denying that they are strong but we are The Hammer!" After this little opening I continue, "All stormravens deploy your payloads with Purifiers making up the front line and dreadnoughts dispersed evenly throughout our forces. Afterward, take back to the skies and provide air support. Watch out for helldrakes, forge fiends, and orbital fire. Land Raiders, keep your terminator squads aboard and form a spearhead for our infantry to follow through. Once through their first tier of defenses, Land Raiders 1-13 deploy terminators. Land Raiders 14-25, do the same when you break through the second tier. Interceptor squads, bypass their frontal defenses and target their dreadnoughts, defilers, and forge fiends if they have any. Watch your backs. All of you remember to use the trenches when you get there. May the Emperor be with you all." Of course these weren't all of our forces. There were still Brothers Perseus, Gabriel, Etzio, Cyrus, and Matthew waiting for deployment coordinates (I think you can guess what they are). Plus there was also the Vindicare Assissin, wherever he is. Chaos begins to make its move, pushing forward with armored units. I bark into the array again, "All stormravens that have finished deploying squads, focus fire on those tanks." I watch as my forces begin to carry out orders as well as Chaos forces that carry out theirs. I pray for the Emperor's guidance, fore I will need it.
(You could explain how ur dude knew about the Helldrakes n Forgefiends they where suppose to be a surprise! All well I'll just invent some more hat tricks.) Xarthus examined the defensive lines with a keen eye, the first defensive line that acted as the outer first tier consisted of crazed heretics and Astraties too far gone to remain amongst coherent ranks of the legion. Some where even strapped down by sheer weight of explosives, waiting for heavy loaded Imperial transports to pass by to throw themselves on like living bombs. There where some entrenched positions but they where mostly otherwise abandoned and laid out with shrapnel traps to maim and shred foes that stormed their interiors. Along the second line of defence that stood at the halfway point of the first tier Xarthus established more hard-build positions that fielded heavy support guns, ranging from Lascanons to heavy bolters and stubbers. This line mostly consisted of Bloodpact troops with around 250 Black Legion Astraties, hand picked sprinters and veterans who can quickly fall-back and relocate by squads should the line collapse and fall-back via dug out tunnels that lead behind the 3rd line. The dirt bulwark that lead past the first tier onto the second consisted of defilers and dreadnaughts that acted as the 3rd line, it consisted of the good majority of ranged and artillery based variants while the more melee oriented where positioned chained up just behind them. Defences from the 3rd line that lead to the start of the third tier consisted of tanks and more armoured variants of tanks and heavy transports some Land Raiders where deployed in this line but not the majority. They where packed with possessed squads armed with melta weapons and heavy explosives, with a pack hunter amongst its ranks with fierce regenerative capabilities and the ability to leap great distances with the assistance of wings. Xarthus was particularly proud of the 3rd tier. Depending on the speed and ferocity of the Grey Knights attack the main force of his defences was to fall back behind the major bulwark, the land between it and the 2nd tier bulwark would then be covered in black tar that caught alight then covered with mines that hid beneath them. Even should any fool hardy Grey Knight make it anywhere near the bulwark they would have to penetrate through a forest of razor and hard pointed trenches and bunkers manned by over 500 Black Legion chaos Astraties. Xarthus himself was deployed on this line along with his Terminators. They had all they needed on this line ranging from hydra defence batteries to heavy ordnance to rain down death and destruction on anything dared came anything near the 3rd tier bulwark. Nothing should penetrate this line of defence with ease, for Xarthus had obtained the secrets of building fortifications and siege weaponry from the Iron Warriors legion. He could never match the true devilry of the Iron Warriors ability to tear down walls or build them up but he came damn close. (Attacking forces may penetrate up to the 3rd tier bulwark, however they must describe each assault to take the ground up to it. Not even the Grey Knights can slice through this defence line like a knife through butter! As a summary, there are 4 tiers of defence. Up to the 3rd tier has been described in this passage the 4th will be described in another paragraph. First tier is divided in half suicide squads and traps throng the first half of this tier. The terrain is relatively flat and only partly hilly, there are some explosive tank traps but few there are mostly anti-infantry shrapnel based traps that are within abandoned trench systems, built by earlier attempts to stem the tide of chaos. The second line that consists the rest of the first tier but not the bulwark leading into the second tier is the Bloodpact forces that roughly equate to the size 3x that of the attacking Astraties. They have no mobile armour support though there are Black Legion Astraties manning these lines mostly consisting of groups of one heavy support squad with 2 supporting tactical squads fighting close to protect it from being over-runed. On top of the tier 1 defenses are the defilers and dreadnaughts who will be firing ranged artillery and suppressing elements on the battlefield. Should attackers make a large breach in the tier 1 bulwark then the retreat will be sounded by a high pitched daemonic roar, the Black legion astraties will fall back by the tunnel systems. These tunnel systems are accessible by the enemy but they all have choke points of manned heavy bolters and explosives to detonate the systems once the Black Legion Astraties fall back. After the tier 1 defenses the enemy will come into more open space that supports armor to armor combat. Before running into tank elements and chasing down retreating Astraties enemies will encounter the line of reserve dreadnaughts and defilers that are more melee oriented and chained in a line. Once one falls or is fired upon the line will break and destructive blood crazed war machines will charge forwards. The Black Legion Astraties that survive from the first tier will use their own armor as cover to retreat to "island" bunkers scattered through-out they are mostly of rundown quality of rockachate but it will be an effort to storm and take these bunkers. They can be bombed out though this may create more cover for the Black Legion then assist the attackers. As the attackers slog half-way through the 2nd tier the Land-raiders will attack with a good portion of possessed on-board that are armed with anti-armor weaponry with a "commander" among them that has incredible regenerative ability's and near flight capabilities. There are no special defenses manning the 2nd bulwalk with the exception of a few heavy entrenchments. Upon seeing the expanse of the 3rd tier defensive line attackers will become discouraged. Should the attackers of wiped out chaos forces beyond the 3rd tier at this point then the tar and hidden mine elements will already be in effect. Should any chaos elements remain that have a commander element then there will be a delay in the tar and mine placement as the remaining force falls-back behind the 3rd bulwark. The 3rd bulwark is equipped to handle anything that's thrown at it, nothing short of a legio titan should be able to breach this tier in a hurry. If anything of this power of magnitude be brought into the picture, take note of the major fleet action taking place in orbit and increase its time of arrival based on those circumstances. That's it! Mainly be creative, if your going to be clever and try to take the tunnels in the 1st tier or "aggro" attack the melee machine line behind the 1st bulwark drawing them into the open then add in an extra objective your character has to perform to make that work a chaos commander or event that would otherwise prevent it from happening. I'm taking a long break now, I'll float around to clarify anything your having troubles with. Either way despite whatever the outcome Koron will have ample enough time to round up several thousand civilians to boost his daemonic tower with. Have fun XD.)
OOC: Leonatos didn't know for sure that if there were helldrakes. Grey Knights are just cautious of possibilities. And where is Koron?
Hes racing to the front with another attack group. I may not describe what happens next for abit, this kind of RP really takes it out of you lol. Took me something like 3 hours to write the last paragraph. Koron is racing into Steelfangs flank to exploit the breach and round up fleeing Imperial civilians as they attempt to secure passage off-planet. He won't come into play of whatever left of the defense until later.
Porbo groaned as his form was lifted by two cultists, the pair huffing and struggling under the weight as they move him. He let his head hang low and made no move to fight their grip. "Well... You're finally here." Came a soft raspy voice. "What... Am I needed for?" Porbo groaned bit lifting his head to see who is speaking to him. "You're the main show! Haha why up until now no host could ever survive possession. But you... You might just be the perfect meld between daemon and man... Truly a marvel to behold!" The voice sounded almost giddy, creating a strange combination of pain and happiness in the air. Porbo groaned, he had no intention of becoming possessed. "Grrrr no." He growls before trying in vain to free himself from the grip of the cultists. Porbo finally relaxed as he could do no more. "Listen to me child... You're in no position to live longer than a few days judging by the blood loss... Is this really such a bad thing?" The voice says as he walks up in front of Porbo, giving him a view of two spikey black boots. "Yes..." He groaned before slipping into unconsciousness before the slowly growing demonic structure .
As the siege began, carnage ensued. The stormravens land in turns across the battlefield, delivering their payloads of Battle-brother squads, Purifiers, and dreadnoughts behind our rushing armored spearhead. Afterward, they take back to the skies to assist with cover fire. Some are harassed by prowling helldrakes and a few were even brought down by their screeching attacks. The Land Raiders surge forward, nearing the Chaos force’s first defensive tier. But their approach is accompanied with gouts of flame as hidden land mines explode. In addition to these obstacles, the hundreds of troops that formed the Chaos first tier (roughly 100 Astartes) had charged towards the Grey Knight vehicles while carrying what appear to be containers of some sort. It is revealed shortly after that these containers are more explosives when the fastest Chaos marines detonate themselves when close to a Land Raider. However, even with all of these counter measures, only a few of the Grey Knight tanks are halted/destroyed, fore their armor is thick and machine spirits unyielding. And those felled tanks’ payloads, being terminators, purposely continue their advance on foot. The Land Raiders fire the mounted weapons on their hulls into the suicidal heretic force. This causes numerous chain reactions among the enemy as close proximity between marines detonate each other’s deadly payloads prematurely, killing almost all of the first defensive tier. Survivors (probably the only sain ones among the first line) retreat back toward the second tier through tunnel entrances that are immediately destroyed after the Chaos marines. Leonatos sends new orders for the entire armored spearhead to deploy their terminators within the second tier, considering that the first was just a diversion meant to but the heretic army time. As the landscape levels out to form a flat plain between the Grey Knights and the second tier, the attackers suddenly encounter a reserve force of Black Legion Chaos marines (200) accompanied by traitor dreadnoughts (20) and daemonic combat defilers (10). However, they are already in combat with the Interceptor squads (say…150 men) sent ahead. The battle is brutal, but with superior numbers and weaponry that is made specifically to combat Chaos, the daemon hunters prevail. (Current GK: they are now down to 375 battle-brothers, 225 purifiers, 100 Interceptors, 75 terminators in 15 Land Raiders + 50 terminators on foot, 8 dreadnoughts, and 55 stormravens. In addition is the command squad with their stormraven on the hill)
*The point of view is now from a justicar (Samuel) leading a squad of 10 purifiers that trailed behind their battle-brothers. 4 of them are carrying a metal crate (something vital when the GK call for back up).* I can see the whole battle from here, I thought to myself. The second tier’s armor (10 Land Raiders) and fortifications (20 gun emplacements) are impressive as well as their troops (250 possessed). I hear Justicar Leonatos order a strafing run be done by the stormravens on their forces, but only 16 participate do to the others being preoccupied with helldrakes. The air strike still made an impact though (there are now 8 Chaos Land Raiders, 12 gun emplacements, and 200 possessed). The heretic army now advanced hard toward our spearhead while there fixed guns pounded the main body. Well that made them angry. OOC: - I don’t want to feel like I’m controlling the story completely. Somebody finish this engagement, possibly taking over the role of the possessed commander with wings. -I made Samuel so I could report what actually is going on where the fighting is thickest. He isn’t that important, although what his squad carries could do something. Leonatos is back on a hill busy commanding. -I am sorry WarheroJango if my story might have skipped over anything.
Australia actually. Really sucks since GW treats us like something they've scrapped off the bottom of their shoe. I have to go into the city if I want to get models or books in relation to 40k or warhammer fantasy. It could be that we're too small for any real hobbyist stores to flourish I can only think of one hobby store that's been around for about 20-40+ years.
