    To my Slaaneshi gents:
  2. Love the idea to use oldschool Death Metal for Nurgle

Also something for Slaanesh (More like a Cult than Noisemarines)

Most people seem to relate Chaos in general to Black Metal/Death Metal and Slaanesh particularly to dubstep.

I respectfully disagree with Black Metal for Chaos but have a big heeeewl no with Dubstep for Slaanesh. I'm assuming people associate Slaanesh with ecstacy and Dubstep and ecstacy go hand in hand as well.
    My opinion?

Chaos=Deathcore mostly but Extreme/Experimental Metals can apply at times. Whatever genre, must be fast paced and chaotic in rythm
Slaanesh=This one's much harder. It's always discribed as displeasing and very unnatural so I believe the rythm must be as hard as possible to follow and a wide range of different sounds and experiences within the song. I only know one band that can fit the title and the closest genre is between Experimental metal and Deathstep. Deathstep comes closest but most of them are really Heavy Dubstep with miniscule Deathcore parts. There's plenty of Dubstep remixes of Deathcore songs though that come closer.

    Now to specifics!

  4. I like that you disagree with the Dubstep thing, because Dubstep is not evil, and Chaos is evil, thus in need of evil Generes and well, Extrem Metal is probably the most evil Genere out there, especially Sub-Generes of Death Metal. While according to the Gods themselves a more atmospheric Sound would fit, it think Metal suits the aggressive and bloodlusty nature of Chaos Space Marines just fine

I would like to conclude my thoughts:

Khorne: low tunings, low guttural singing, fast and aggressive riffs, grinding and brutal feel => basically Death Metal (i.e Debauchery)
Nurgle: low washi tunings, low unclear voices, fast but not as fast and agressive as Khorne, more of a decaying feel => some Old School Death Metal Hybrid (i.e early Autopsy)
Slaanesh: hudge vary of sounds and tunings, low and high voices (guttural, screams and pig squeals), confusing disharmony "ecstasy" feel => Deathcore/Brutal Death Metal Hybrid with electrical influences (i.e Cattle Decapitation, Igorrr)
Tzeentch: confusing, disharmony sounds with relative small bindings => many music Generes in general (i.e Igorrr, Meshuggah and some of the SilentHill Themes)
However, the Chaosforce is devided by Warbands and not by Chaosgods, so we should rather look for songs and Bands which fit the Warbands.

And in the End all out efforts are meaningless, because most Games (especially Warhammer 40k games) are underlined with classical music or at least atmospheric music.
So we could just go with this dudes compilations:

I've said it before, death metal or whatever is outdated and silly for the modern WH40k, imo. This is not the 80's Rogue Trader era anymore. 40k has evolved beyond that. I wouldn't be able to take the Chaos factions seriously at all if Bolt Thrower death metal music was blaring in the background. Again, it's just silly.
I think the direction of dark, creepy ambient music that Halberd on pg.3 was going for fits very well with Chaos. Maybe a TINY bit of metal mixed in with dark orchestra and choir could work for Chaos battle music.

I like you're thinking. I'd say its the closest I've seen to my own opinion so far.
The only difference is I think Nurgle would be more fit for Death Metal, which tends to feel slow enough to be filled with dread, yet not too slow as to keep an auro of terror. Khorne I think would fit Deathcore the most as it seems more adrenaline pumping and rage inducing. Sounds like we're on the same page with Slaanesh and possibly Tzeentch, except I haven't listened to any Silent Hill themes. As long as "confusing"and "horror" are associated with it I assume it would work. Tzeentch seems like an more active version of Cthulhu and the fear-of-the-unknown stories that follow him.

As far as "our efforts" i personally don't want GW to start using these types of songs in their games. I like the gothic ambient atmosphere they already use for the games . Could be darker but I'm not complaining. I like the ambient playlist you recomended but think it's a major shame that the tracks have too many silent moments. Nurlges was practically a silent film. The Tzeentch theme for example (

) has some great parts like at 5:37 and then some very dull parts like at 3:20 which lasts at least until 4:20 at which point i stopped listening.

Are we going for fitting ambient music or opening theme song? I thought we were going for more of a theme for them instead of what would be most appropriate to hear while playing a game as them... If it IS ambient, then forget my previous entries... actually forget i was here entirely.
  8. This Thread is as far as I understand it more about what music people associate with the Dark Gods, rather than finding a suitable theme for the game itself.
And in my concluded thoughts I think a rather aggressive music would fit Chaos Space Marines the best.

If I would go for ingame music, I would agree with you and refer to the link I made, where someone made the effort of making compilations of atmospheric music workpieces.

I was talking about my opinion on both the Chaos music for this game and just in general.

Well i have a few more suggestions, but i'm not really sure if they'll work for chaos or not. I'll let you guys decide.

I'm still trying my best to look for music that's more warhammer 40k oriented, but i'm not exactly what you guys would call a 40k "Veteran" , i mean i have played dawn of war and read plenty of lore over at lexicanum.com, but i know next to nothing on table top or barley own any novels of my own. Though i have always been fascinated by human history and have tried so very hard to understand the emotional and psychological means of warfare, even through music. So hopefully i'll find something that will please your appetite for killing and fighting. ;)
