It's because people seem to enjoy playing make believe with the lore, and want "Balance" in 40k. Personally, if he wants to be a squishy guardsman, I say let him, so long as it's brought about in a canon manner. We'll see how well the IG stands up to CSM and other races.

Agreed, sorry to say but you cant argue that IG are that "strong" outside of a TT setting. In this game, or a "real life" setting all IG are good for is horde tactics and manning more powerful wepons and vehicles. This is true in war now, the average infantry get shredded by the current fire power that conventianal armies can field. IG are the weakest race 1v1, and you cant tell me Orks are weaker. Are you kidding? A race genetically created for war aganist Necrons, that dont really feel pain, can survive having limbs and even their head removed, and can phsyically power junk to make wepons? A Guardsmen with a scratch on a new planet could easily die, let alone having limbs and organs removed violently in a battle.

Really could make a good test for all the Factions and create hype, but NPC defenders i support with all the races. The two dont have to be mutually exclusive

I don't recall saying that they had a chance, I said if he wanted to be "squishy" (weak) then let him.

Sorry man didnt mean to come off like you did, should have structured that differently
Replied you because i agreed with what you said, and having it quoated in my post added more comprehensive info/point of view without me just repeating you

Not a problem, my mistake for misunderstanding. Glad that we both agree. Just think, if a bolt gun is .75 calibur.... and our .50 cals can rip off limbs and explode bodies....... that's a 50% increase in calibur alone, not taking the physical force or increased trajectory over a surface area under higher amount of physical force during impact.... oh and they're high explosive. Have fun, Guardsmen!

Where did you hear .75 cal? Lol i always thought they were 1.00 cal.... could just be a book where the author stated the wrong calibur though.

  8. That and Bolter Round impacts can basically make your soft human organs implode.

If they add IG and cultists to the SM and CSM factions then simply make them veterans of the lot. That way they have access to gear that can kill space marines and pick up carapace armor. Look at black crusade depending on your gear(Humans can get power armor and human sized bolters and power weapons/fists) which can kill a space marine if they are not careful.

That way people can have their female and male option and still be useful.

For all the bad press they get, a lasgun still has easily enough power to kill a space marine in a single shot. The table-top is not a good place to look at "balance" as that is tweaked to work as different armies are designed to play, and balanced based on an arbitrary point system. The RPGs are much better, and really, they should be what is looked at for relative strengths, if anything is.

Also the whole "A guardmen dies in a single bolter round!" SM would too, if it weren't for their armor. Orks do too. Hey, Eldar too! So that argument is also null.

Asymmetric balance. Yes, one on one a guardsmen with a lasgun is likely going to be eaten by a tac marine with a bolter. so, how do you off-set that? Make upgrades for the IG cheaper so that they are more common. Alternately, include mechanics that support them playing the way they 'should'. IE, an individual guardsmen is relatively weak, but in a squad, and in coherency, then they a 'buff' (at at least lose the debuff) and become more accurate, higher-fire-rate, etc. Possibly even a 'dig-in' ability that immobilizes the squad, but gives them a % damage resistance as they make shallow foxholes and other improvised cover.

Plus, Leman Russ's and Chimeras. Having that Chimera is a huge force multiplier, both for movement, and while it is alive, the squad is still firing at nearly full strength, and has two extra mobile heavy weapons. And when the squad inside is a vet or command squad with 4 plasma or meltas, yeah, they melt faces.
