    This topic

What is dead may never die lol but thats ok since its been a while and the older topic is likely buried under years of discussion.

That said, the consensus from other discussions was that preventing people to play what they want within reason is not ideal. Plus there are supposed to be Elites and Veteran classes that take a limited amount resource and cashshop to reduce their overuse and ubiquity.
  2. Actually now that i think about it i have a legit reason for not capping classes

..What if you're playing in a guild that used a particular playstyle?

Such as an ork guild that like shootas and lootas a lot and doesnt use many sluggas?

Or a blood angel guild that really like it's assault marines?

    Also. No :p

As many said before, this has already been proposed, please check the link below:

    My opinion: No.
I'm playing a game where I play a single character, I want to play whatever I enjoy playing, not be compelled in whatever class is needed. If a class is highly needed, I'll ask the team or go for it myself, but I don't want to be forced into it. (Yes I'm selfish. Who isn't? If we developp enough, I can prove the very point of having people forced into a class is selfish.)
A composition with all the same unit is viable in the Lore. It's (almost) viable in TableTop, it could be viable in DoW... It's viable EVERYTIME EVERYWHERE if the enemy doesn't react or adapt his/her own army accordingly.
It is viable here because of lack of communication between players: just say "there are 10 Shieldbros on A, we can't go in. Squad Bravo, please switch to Dark Reapers to pin them out." It usually works out (especially if you're being polite).

Any form of class incentive or limitations is refused mostly because of the lame argument "I DO WHAT I WANT LOL."

This makes me remember of every Guild wars 2/Lineage 2/Heroes of the Storm/LoL games filled with no-brain DPS classes, or Battlefield games full of snipers and support with zero medics, zero assaults, zero tacticals; or Battlefield 4 games full of medics in infantry only games or full of engineers in regular games. Theses are mainstream games where you better die than rely on someone else.

People shouldn't do what they want in a team-based game, but any restrictive or penalting gamedesign isn't good because it can affect players who think of the team first, and theses are the one who should be rewarded, some way or another.
Theo, Sceviour and DrDooManiC like this.
  5. That's the spirit. The question is though, how will you reward them?
The mentioned Damage / Survivability (De-)Buffs would influence the game much too much im afraid...

    Three seperate ideas :
    - An XP bonus, like always in this game. (Follow orders from your leader, staying close do him, doing stuff with him, healing/resupplying/protecting/helping your squad member, they all give xp bonuses)
    - A debuff with the buff (Like choosing a playstyle)
    - A debuff if the conditions that gives you the buff aren't fulfilled.

It happens to any game. When the team goes all DPS and they are up against a team which is well balanced with tanks, healers and dps, they get roflstomped 99% of the time by the balanced team. Then the inevitable "hurr durr healers and tanks are OP, nerf them waah waaah they make this game boring" happens. I like bringing up the TF2 example because the private servers on it almost always cap the snipers and spies to 3 or 4 per team because otherwise, everyone will play a sniper or a spy. I really havent seen many complaints about those class caps on TF2 because most people just accept that a team of 8 snipers and 4 spies, while they will halt any enemy team progress, doesnt make the game fun because eventually you will be on the "wrong" side and will have to face that bullshit. Occasionally a server will cap engineers as well because nobody likes an entire team of engineers and like 15 sentries across the map but its much more rare because people in general dont like playing the camping engie :p

Edit: Another thing. Everyone keeps claiming at launch this game will be balanced. Um...have you guys ever even played an MMO??? Balance is a lie and is impossible, no matter how hard you try. This game, like all the MMOs before it will never, ever be balanced. You will always have a FOTM, you will always have people cheezing bad mechanics and you will always have 1 class/loadout dominating the map. Ive been playing MMOs since I was a little kid and there is a universal constant in all of them. There is no such thing as true balance. The best developers can ever do is a stat creep where they just keep buffing and nerfing the classes every so often to change what the FOTM is.

Depending on the Squad leader? Like the standard?

That'd be an idea. But if you land with only pickups, you'll have to arrange with them what class/stuff everyone should have. Favoring (not forcing) communication between players... I'd like it, but if you land with 5 stupid squad leaders that went with (just a random exemple, nothing of this exists to my knowledge):
-standard of superheavy Anti armor, so everyone in the game needs to have a heavy weapon...

That wouldn't lead an army anywhere unless people have carefully planned it beforewards. Teamplay required. (In a team base game, I understand, but Warparty is 5 only so far, so you mainly play with pickups)

Actually, the Standard could be the answer (see you in the future) to this kind of problem.

Too many people using OP broken things is not the issue. The OP broken things are the issue. Fix them and it will all go away. Tralalala laaa.
    0strum and Whisper33 like this.

Also those classes are easy to counter.
