Eternal Crusade is going to be like any other shooter: People will find the cheese and abuse it to win. You can't balance everything. But you can at least limit it.
Too soon to talk about implementing this. First i would like to see all classes (heroes also) implemented all wargear added and balancing process completed. Perhaps then. I think balancing will be extremly hard. It is like in tabletop WH40k... most units have a lot of upgrades that noone who knows this game is using. And i suppose that same will be EC. There will be some power-loudouts commonly used and others used only by beginers. Devs want it balanced and as much as possible fluffy. But fluff and balance are usually conflicted. If balance will come to endless process I would say your idea should be considered. I`m just not sure how players would react. I mean everyone inluding me want to have freedom in choosing his playing style. Another question is how to implement this. Players assignet to squads at the begining of battle and squads having loudouts with points/weapons limit? Hard to imagine this... I`m already seeing fights who would take plasma cannon.
But why limiting people... when you could incentive people to play other classes that would be needed at the moment? A XP Boost or lowering the price to be a veteran of this class? That would also balance it out on itself
I do not think this because all classes should at their default level be asymmetrically balanced with one another. Yes, a Devastator should lose to an Assault more often in melee but that Assault is going to lose to the Devastator in range more often, giving them overall a 50% win chance against each other. With such balance existing players should be free to choose what class they want, changing their wargear to better fit their current situation.
2 words Hard Counters The defensive bash is a soft counter for melee. A buffed melta or flamers would be a hard counter for melee. A stalker bolter would be a soft counter to devastators. A jump assault would be a hard counter to devastators.
No. Removing player's choice to pick their class only has a net negative effect and is poor and lazy game design.
I don't like an arbitrary cap, but anything that favors communication and information between players is always welcome. I don't want this game to have situations like in MOBA games or in Battlefield games where you've got crappy teams because everyone takes and do what they want and no one cares about what is needed.
Absolutely NOT I paid for this game I will play what characters I want! And learn the role i need to play to help my team be successful.
