Can Wraiths Talk?

    Check forgeworld, they make (made?) a wraithseer? A seerlord? Something. A dead-psycher-became-wraithlord.
    It existed in the background before the model anyway.
    Anyway: nope. "Normal" wraithlords have no psycher (as in: warlock/farseer) in them, just a dead eldar and his "natural" psychic abilities.
    Background wise it seems the wraithlords are dead eldar that walked some path of the warrior.
    In one story, an exarch's soul is used IIRC.. (which.. kinda contradicts other background on exarchs :rolleyes:)
    (Easy fix: replace "exarch" with autarch, and it makes more sense 'even in dead I still lead the army'. )

    Regarding Speech:
    It seems unthinkeable to me, a race spacefaring like the eldar and as advanced, and meeting other species, would have no such things as comms, as loudspeakers etc.
    The dead eldar's soul controls the wraith; my understanding is a soulstone is placed inside the wraith-construct.
    This makes the soulstone and its occupying soul the brains of the wraith, imo it isn't soul-energy that directly manipulates the joints etc.

    So, my personal attempt at supporting the varied background, where one wraith can speak and the other cannot:
    some wraithguard have "loudspeakers", or transmitters, some don't.
    Not all eldar are equal, and not all dead eldar may be equal. Some dead eldar may find the voice comms extremely unsettling and never use it, even if "able".

    (
    System_Error.
    Soulstone_v_7 did not detect any speaker hardware;
    command "tell (the autarch ).to.( bugger off)" not executed. ;
    //Hint: you can try to check the holonet for interface-updates, or upgrade your soulstone system. Contact your local spiritseer if you require further assistance.

    In some cases I believe it says "Eldar Hero".

    There are also the Warlock Titans, which are the Seer version of a Phantom Titan. Same deal, larger scale. :)

    I'm even less comfortable with the idea of autarchs becoming Wraithlord than I am with the idea of exarchs. Autarchs are meant to be quite rare, certainly rarer than a wraithlord.

    I did not say "all wraithlords are crewed by a dead autarch";
    I said "Background wise it seems the wraithlords are dead eldar that walked some path of the warrior.

    I seem to remember a story where one exarch is used for a wraith construct.
    For such story, the easy fix to have a "legendary warrior" crewing the wraith lord is to put an autarch there, preserving the background of eldar exarchs.

    Other wraithlords:
    the cc one is crewed by Joe whom died a striking scorpion,
    the ranged one is crewed by Mike, formerly a dire avenger,
    etc.

    Just wanted to clear that up.

    I could otherwise imagine a farseer plotting, in the best interest of the craftworld..
    "hmm.... wraithknights and wraithlords are far more effective than a single autarch..
    how do I make sure we have.. sufficient.. pilots. Oh dear, I think autarch Derpaherp whom I don't like might become overextended tomorrow and cut-off" :confused:
    Quothe and Dragonkindred like this.
  5. Wraithlords in DoW 2 have lines where they speak regulary

    While the DoW 1 Wraithlords just growl a lot

    Take that as you will

    I'd feed all of Cadia System to the Eye to save just one Autarch from death, letting a hero of my people die to put their soul into a machine seems unthinkable. There are perhaps trillions of dead Eldar hosted within the infinity circuits of our worlds, it is a choice I would never need to make either: if the spiritseers will it, they shall march for the craftworld again.

    I don't know about Cadia. It provides a fairly effective deterrent to protect Ulthwé and Altansar.

    The Mon'Keigh will happily replenish their ranks - the Eye calls to them, it is their fate to battle Chaos - if Cadia fell they would divert their plastic men and flood the eye with sacrifice: they do it so well.

    My only priority is the preservation of my people - only when our souls are contained within the Infinity Circuits can we hope to birth The New One, and slay Her.

    Only then - when we have pieced Khaela back together - made amends for the War in Heaven - will we stand as a child between Ynnead and Khaela, our tiny hands held in theirs, as they guide our souls through the Webway to return to the Immaterium: to live once more amongst the gods.

    In the end, the Mon'Keigh are all meaningless - but a single Eldar soul bears the fruit of that possibility: that we mortals may craft a god who can carry us beyond time. You weigh the Autarch's person against the worth of Cadia and question my logic - but I weigh a god and an eternity for our kin - against a few monkeys and some ugly planets.

    So long as the Mon'Keigh bring the fight to Chaos, Khorne will not go hungry - I care not - for he is not our adversary, and the humans are not our allies.

    I don't think we should consider the lives of the Cadians, but exterminating them could prove to be short-sighted. I'm not a Farseer myself, so maybe we need one to evaluate the possible outcomes.

    i wonder why craftworld Iyanden does'nt produce artificial bodys to house their spirits to live a second life.
    not wraithbone construct for war. but living bodys control by dead eldar with a spiritstone inside.
    since large portion of iyanden population lay dead. they're in need of 'man' power.
