I haven't played the game consistently in a while, part burned out on it and disappointed with the progress but I will say I respect Nathan and the newer team members post Miguel-era for coming into this shit show as a Senior Producer and getting a decent game to launch. Considering the game really was over promised, under developed and likely hemorrhaging funding from the big changes in the team and tech fails between the transition. Am I happy with the state of the game, nope! I want it to succeed so I will just keep an eye on it and plop in time to time hoping campaigns and more persistent world features make it in or other MMO quality of life features. So in the end, good luck to the devs, may they keep trying to improve their skill sets and the game and let's see how far it goes.
I'd argue that it's not "terrible-terrible" and more of a "disappointing terrible". Plus, now the devs are trying to do something right for the first time in a while, and, well, you don't hit a dog because it finally stopped peeing in your shoes. Unless you're into some really weird stuff. And you can't train a dog with just negative reinforcement. Spoiler don't be a dick save against 12 Granted, a dog is actually smart, and BHVR is BHVR, but still. Also, if Nathan was a dog, we could play ball. Just thought about it. And if you're dog and reading this, then you're a good boy. And "doggo" is a fun word. It's like "gobbo", only better. ... I'm really into dog things today.
My initial reaction was "No, half the time he's a snake oil salesman." But then Galen and Nimrock came in with a tide of insufferable posts and I realized no one deserves that.
I don't really have thoughts for the dev team. While i won't go out my way to outright insult them, i don't appreciate what they've done either. The game lacks love and they don't seem enthusiastic about their project. I've seen modders with more passion and speed, as well as expertise. Now, when a complete company is making a game with a full dev team, publisher and plenty of money backing them, people have a right to be dissatisfied. It's their fault they chose a publisher anyway so I won't feel sorry for them, especially after saying they'll do everything under the sun and it either ends up being "post launch 40,000 years from now" or implemented so badly they might as well just not bother. I get that they're inexperienced in their field. But right here is the very definition of biting off way more than you can chew. I don't endorse people shitting on nathan, or any of the other devs. As I believe everyone deserves respect. But I won't go so far as to defend them either.
After all the rather cloying displays of affection in this thread I would ask for the WH40K equivalent of a sick bag but as that would be a bolt round to the head i'll suffer on in silence
And it's true for so many 40k games. I don't know, maybe it's because GW is so greedy that they don't want to sign contracts with bigger studios who would ask for a bigger share of the cake or maybe it's just good ol' poor judgement but man, how many times did we see 40k projects be given to people who obviously weren't big or competent enough to handle them? Thankfully there is some very rare gems here and there as the first DoW for example. And while we are on the subject, as a game, just try to take a look at how studios who have done previously 40k games are doing now. They almost all have gone bankrupted. They sure know how to pick them.
Kindness costs nothing, especcially to Nathan and the devs that are doing their best to improve the game with the tools / money/ppl they have. Its also a matter of education imo. Ok the criticism its good, but there is no need to throw insults at them . They are not stupid or doing wrong things on purpose to make us upset, no developer have the will to ruin its own game for random reasons imo.
We do give them a hard time sometimes but in my case and I'm sure others that is only out of frustration in wanting the very best out of the game. I'd be more worried if people didn't give them shit from time to time as at least it means they still care but we do need to remember to construct something useful for them to work with out of that shit and not let high levels of salt or bitching effect good feedback. bE are a great dev team IMO even if some of the decisions are a little out there at times. They communicate and listen to fans through most of the process which is a very rare thing in game development even these days. Also how many other dev teams do you know of that would face the community on a regular bases like they do? And not just any community but mostly a 40k fan community! I can't think of any other devs that would be brave/silly enough to even contemplate such a thing so they deserve a bloody medal for that! Anyway, they have given us a worthy 40k game that has the potential to be something very special IMO hence the aggressive pushing from the passionate members of the community from time to time and hopefully they do realise that. Nurgle hugs to Nathan and the EC team. Keep it coming.
If the devs want respect or admiration they'll get it when they make the game we bought, instead of the game we're all settling for because we have no choice.
