(On the topic of pressure) "How many atmospheres can the marine withstand? Well it's a space marine so anywhere between 0 and 1."
As the Tau encroach ever-further into Imperial space, they begin to make a move on the Ocean World of Kvariam Alpha, mining its waters. For a decade Tau operations on Kvariam Alpha go unseen by the Imperium, until it is discovered that they have taken the Ocean World and established deep underwater mining cities throughout its seabed. With the Imperial Guard unable to engage the Tau forces deep below the sea, the Space Wolves are called in.[1] Gunnar Red Moon's Great Company land on Kvariam's tiny land mass and take the fight to the Fire Warriors that occupy it. The Space Wolves fight off the Tau and establish a beachhead, launching an underwater assault with Land Raiders. They drive deep into the ocean along the sea bed, the advanced airtight Land Raiders and their adamantium hulls immune against the effects and pressure of the ocean. As the Space Wolves vehicles approach the Tau's underwater cities, they disgorge Terminators and are met by propeller-tailed Battlesuits as well as sleek torpedo-armed underwater craft. A desperate, silent undersea battle erupts that eventually sees the Space Wolves victorious when Gunnar shatters the domes of the Tau mining cities. not many foes build undersea bases
I would think like lots of things they could just be programmed to do it/taught how if they needed to. It would come down to if they had to do it they would learn it. Otherwise if you have a suit of armor that just lets you walk on the bottom why bother. Better question would be how effective can they fight under water. Pretty hard to move fast when you have to push water for every single chainsword swing.
More like half/half. Ond the half, which has liquid water nearly all year round, are the Viking like islanders with thier dragon ships... they fish, sail around, raid thier neighbours and kill sea dragons to use thier hides as... whatever. On the other half is the Fang and all the SM initiation/training facilities. Hm... only thing about that I remember in one of William Kings Space Wolf novels. Ragnar and another Space Wolf jump into water in full Power Armor and dive along a river, are washed down a waterfall and then swim (on the water surface) across a bigger basin until they can climb on land.
don't think this has been said, but in the Iron Snakes book ( http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Brothers_of_the_Snake_(Novel) ) the main character and I think a couple other marines go swimming. if you want to view the link just add a parentheses in at the end, for some reason the ) isn't part of the hyperlink :|
I think space marines can swim, but probably not in their armour, which they'll rarely go into battle without, it's probably only scouts that really get the opportunity to actually swim.
