Can i upgrade this crappy PC ?

Discussion in 'Off-Topic Discussions' started by HORROR7, Oct 19, 2015.

  1. I just dont have enough money to buy a brand new rig, so maybe i wont be able to play this awesome game in the future. If that happens, i will give this account to another person who is able to play this game. Thats sad, really sad

i'm playing on a rig i got for 900 usd on sale on best buy, it runs at low but it runs.
  3. 900 is too much for me :(
  4. I may be a bit slow, but is it a Desktop or Laptop?

If it's a Desktop you may need to buy a new Motherboard and CPU.

By the way what's your RAM? DDR2 or DDR3?
Does your graphics card use an AGP or PCIE slot?
  5. Destop, DDR3 RAM, and idk what slot does my graphic card use

Seriously? With 900 USD you can get a rig much better than that, what parts do your PC have?

    You got scammed, enjoy.

Please, please, don't try to answer questions you don't know the answer to.

The Intel Pentium 620 requires a motherboard with a 1155 socket. This same socket supports the slightly older i7-3770 as its highest end CPU (replaced by the i7-4790K and the newer i7-6700K on the 1150 and 1151 sockets respectively). So yes, it can be upgraded to at least "an i3 processor" without changing the motherboard.

The GPU is both integrated and terrible (par for the course when it comes to integrated GPUs). A 750Ti is cheap and doesn't necessitate the purchase of a new PSU due to it's ridiculously low power consumption allowing it to draw its power directly from the PCIe slot so it doesn't need PCIe power cables.

As for RAM.... it'd be best to open your PC and see how many RAM slots are available (it's likely to be 4, but you never know with pre-built PC's). They're also likely to be soldered to the motherboard because fuck you that's why.

The CPU is from 2011 and both DDR2 and AGP were phased out of existence during 2007-2008. I'd be impressed if the motherboard supported those slots.

Also, the GPU utilises neither AGP nor PCIe. It's an integrated piece of crap.

So yes, OP, you can upgrade your PC to run EC. I can't help you if you don't state your budget, though.

  8. Most modern Motherboards have an integrated GPU, but they also tend have upgrade slots (for sound cards, network cards, etc) that conform to the PCIe standard.

So there's a chance, @HORROR7, that your motherboard has a slot that can take a PCIe Graphics Card, which would be an instant upgrade.

Plus, I believe your motherboard's socket can take the Xeon E3 1290 V2, which is also a 64bit Quad Core processor, but with a speed of 3700 MHz.

If you can find out, telling us what motherboard you have would allow us to advise you more.

No. Most CPUs have an integrated GPU.

Of course, but integrated GPU's don't go there.

It can, for a much higher price and not much more performance.

It's LGA 1155, don't need to know much more
  10. Actually the integrated GPU on processor is a recent development and is generally only used for mobile devices, such as Laptops and Tablets.

Plus the G620 is only a Dual-Core Microprocessor, and doesn't have a GPU. Which means the Graphics is either run from the Motherboard or through a Graphics Card.

No, but Graphics Cards can. Please pay atttention.

Yes, but that couple of hundred MHz can make all the difference.

That's just the socket for the processor. Which can be found on multiple Motherboards with different slots and requirements.
I'm trying to find out if his motherboard can take a Graphics Card.
    Once again, please pay attention.

By the way, FYI I am trained to build PCs with Cisco certification so I do kind of know what I am talking about.
