    YES
    why?
    why not!
if the players don't "win" in time a big hive fleet should pop out of ftl travel with a countdown
at the end of it all fortifications stop working, respawns don't happen and huge amounts of tyranid start falling from the skies: THE LAST STAND
nobody win and a new campaign starts

In the Iyanden supplemental codex, it goes into depth as to how Iyanden turned into a necromantic tomb craftworld. Iyanden was directly in the line of fire of hive fleet Kracken, along with two much smaller craftworlds. The two smaller craftworlds where consumed while Iyanden barely survived. Only because of the return of Prince Yriel and the heavy reliance on wraith units. Now, I really like the impending doom feeling that Tyranids bring to the table. If you folks are familiar with Arkham Asylum, the lovcraftian board game, you understand what I mean. There are several ways to lose and the only way to survive is by working together and luck.

Now I'm not asking for this harsh of a game (even though this mind set suits the 40k universe) because this game isn't trying to break ground in the horror genre. However, I feel if the Tyranids aren't a real threat at some point, they'll be blown off as a nuisance and have very little impact on the faction they're trying to impede. I want the high population faction to begrudging ask the others for aid in order to deal with the mounting threat. Then backstabbing and oath-breaking (which I would really like an RP server or at least people to get into the heads of the race they're playing) can occur cementing the hatred of that respective race. Having a "last stand" to defend dropships and webways would be amazing. That idea is my favorite thus far, and in order to get to that point the Tyranids must be allowed to "win" campaigns or just have it as a large event like it has been mentioned.

I voted yes: because if they cant win, players cant lose, and if players cant lose to tyranids, it doesnt make much sense to join the effort to fight the tyranids.

    Well said, exactly this.

I like the idea of a last stand scenario. My post is several pages back, maybe around 5, doesn't matter. Basically, when a faction takes majority control (Tyranids are intended to be a handicap for the biggest/best faction) a huge massive Tyranid hivefleet will attack. If you can beat them, you will claim victory for your faction, and unlock something significant, though not game breaking. If you lose, try again. This makes Tyranid an important part of the game. You compete against players to fight against the 'nids so that you can play 'end game content'. This could also be triggered by completing your factions campaigns, which doesn't necessarily mean taking control of the whole planet, thus allowing everyone to potentially participate. Another thing, if your faction is able to hold onto it's primary planetary base, you would be considered victorious, even if you weren't the faction who triggered the invasion; just survive to win :)

    Yeah sure, why not?

They should effectivley be the same as any other faction in the game, just controlled by AI rather than players. Sometimes they'll win, sometimes they'll lose.

It would be cool if on occasion, when the Tyranids gain several victories in a row, it triggers some kind of purge event where all the player factions can combine their efforts to beat back the Tyranid tide.

  7. AI very rarely beat players, Unless they're receiving insane bonuses they won't be a match for players of equal number (hell or even 5:1).

I think a lot of the idea's in here are great.
But i'm thinking the 'nids will be fairly basic for the first few months as they find out how things progress
if after then the devs realize the players want the 'nids to do more and become more aggressive they could always implement a global event...
say the nids dont start off being controlled by eg:Hive Tyrant or something but by something else, the devs could announce that said "Tyrant" has appeared on the planet prompting the nids to go on all out offensives.. it becomes down to all players to either team up or attack on their own but if the Nid leader is defeated they will become less organized and lose their offensive edge, causing us players to return to praising Khorne

Ahh man i agree with almost everything in this thread, yes if we dont pay enough attention to the nids we deserve to lose and be anihilated.

And as mentioned the current hive fleets being only scouts gives me goosebumps.

I hope that at some point of Eternal Crusade's life, a Tyranid stemmed insurrection takes over a base, continent, or planet without anyone's knowing. A sudden massive scale event that is triggered at a moment's notice.
