I was playing the Division and I realized something... With a simple key click I can switch from looking over my right shoulder to looking over my left shoulder. I realized that's why the gameplay actually felt smooth to me since I'm not being 100% obscured by my character model when looking around.

@BrentEllison Would it be possible to give a key that just slides the camera from over the right shoulder to over the left shoulder without impacting gameplay. The cross hair and where your aiming is the same it would just switch shoulders to allow better vision when in some of the close areas and when looking over railing in some directions where the character model would otherwise block the view.

Because of the way swapping sides works it might not be possible any time soon, but it is something they're looking into.
