I've always had some issues with over the shoulder cameras in any game and EC appears to be no different. There is mainly one issue that concerns me the most, lets call it the "shoulder paradigm". Forcing the camera to be locked to single location(right shoulder in this case) causes the following issues: If you lean your right shoulder against a wall you lose a good amount of visibility. Trying to peek around a right corner forces you to completely expose your self. Both issues can be seen from 6:15 onward in the MMORPG pre-alpha footage. Some games allow you to switch the shoulder by pressing a button, to me this not a good approach either because of two reasons, first its one more thing you have to do, second controlling camera location feels unnatural and breaks immersion. If I can offer a solution even though this is not a the suggestion forum. Give players the option to choose the default camera location(left, right or a fixed center) Allow the game client to sense if there is an object near the shoulder and smoothly change location.
I noticed that theres no locked cover, but there is leaning to the right and left. So if the camera just changes the side to the other shoulder while leaning to that direction that would be easy and would fix the problem right away.
ya that would be nice also a quickbutton to swap the sides manualy and when you are out of combat aka sprinting it should be centred over your head to have a good view where you are sprinting that would also fit the viewfield of the character
This is pre-alpha footage, and they have said before that they are going to work on the camera. Don't think the game is going to be as it shows, keep in mind that its still another 2 years untill beta will even be announced.
lol a big nooo ^^ closed alpha around this summer! closed beta around early next year! and for sure they will work on the camera and on everything else!
