Hey everybody, Grall here. Me and @bossaroo have been talking and brainstorming an rp set within the wonderfully weird, dark and funny world of Fallen London/Sunless sea. Premise: The players will find themselves in Fallen London, it used to be normal London, but as the game so lovely describes itself. London was stolen. Now it rests on the shore of the Unterzee, that old dark ocean under the world. Hell is close, immortality is cheap, and the screaming has largely stopped… So you are in the neath, a strange supernatural place of great many unexplained happenings, the night is eternal, there are no stars and no moon. The year is 1870, it is over 30 years since London was stolen from the surface by the bazaar, a giant market where nearly everything is for sale, including souls and literal immortality, the bazaar is run by the masters, giant hooded creatures known only by simple names, like Mr. Fires, Mr. Cups, Mr. Pages etc, they are the ones who truly control all the strings, many of them are rivals but their game runs far above the heads of normal citizens. The players will find themselves all have met up for some sort of secret job offered to them with a letter bearing the seal of a master of the bazaar, and may or may not know each other prior. Strange factions (will be introduced when the players learn of them) Rubbery men: An oddity where ever they may go. No one knows where the rubbery men come from or what they mean to do but that they simply arm. Rubbery men are capable of producing an amber like substance dubbed rubbery amber by the brilliant and inventive londoners. Rubbery men cant speak any language on men and so no one understands them. The church of london has a strong dislike against the rubbery men as do many common folk System: We have planned to use a pretty simple talent/flaw system, what happens will be an effect of what you write in an action, and if its well written and not preposterous, it will help with your rolls. Talents and flaws work a bit in the same way, giving and taking small role bonuses. Here at first people are pretty blank slates, (apart from your story and personality ) Most deaths wont be permanent, it will most often lead to you meeting the enigmatic boats man, or you becoming a tomb colonist, unless your die in a spectacular way, or of some extremely deadly weapon. Normal char: A "normal" human from the neath, you are yet to be something special, though that will change soon. (if you know lore you can be kharginate and the liking if explained well through back story ) Special characters. (there can be only one each of these) Tomb colonist: An undead, you have received a very mortal wound earlier in "life" or have met up with the boats man a few times too many, and you now find yourself half dead, your body slowly somewhat rotting. Pros: No fear of death, very hard to kill or cripple, experienced fighter, easier to talk and negotiate with other tomb colonists. Cons: slowly loosing all physical feelings, it will be much harder to talk and negotiate with normal people, bouts of heavy melancholy since you are dead and emotion is slowly leaving you. Unfinished man: Claymen exists all over London, they are clay given life, they come from the Polythreme across the undersea, where everything is alive, even the coins in your pocket and the cobblestones beneath your now lively boots. Normal claymen do no sins, they harm no one, and just work, many see them as a simple slave race, strong, loyal and low upkeep. Unfinished men on the other hand, all lack something, a small physical thing lacking, but along with this physical lack, they also lack what seems to be keeping normal claymen good, Unfinished men are mostly criminals and enforcers for the Bazaar, they are strong, tough, most often without moral conscience . Pros: Great strength, hardened clay skin and flesh, cant bleed, can be repaired from most injuries. Cons: needs clay to heal any kind of wound, scorned and feared by normal society, death is permanent, larger chance of being the target of other unfinished men, lack of morality. Rattus Faber: London has great many rats, it is a big problem, though for some strange reason, many animals and plants have a much raised intelligence, cats and tigers talk and love secrets, feral mushrooms stalk marshes, spiders hold councils and will steal your eyes. But some rats have even changed to walk to two legs, are quiet cunning and intelligent, they talk and have hand perfect for tinkering, they have an affinity for machinery and sneaking. And produce some of Londons deadliest firearms. Pros: very small and good at hiding, quick and cunning, affinity for tinkering and machinery. Cons: very small and fragile, weak, death is permanent. Character name: Age: Gender: Race: ( i.e Londoner , unfinished man , tomb colonist etc ) Occupation: ( inspector : investigators hat and magnifying glass , pickpocket: thief's gloves and unsuspicious bowler hat , Enforcer: bruisers vest and brass knuckles, Conman: dapper hat and velvet gloves ) Some starting gear can be exchanged for things around the same power, like @TuskatheDaemonKilla can exchange his brass knuckles for a tough fighting cane (not stabby tho, but a bloody fine starting bludgeon) @Keidivh @TuskatheDaemonKilla @CommissarGaunt @Maleth @Vulpas @Uriel1339 @GoreWrencha @DeranVendar @DaKaptin @Colapse
While fallen london has traces of lovecraft in it ( maonly through its overwhleming and powerful greater than thee scenarios ) it actually has nothing/little to do with the actual lore of lovecraft which can be overwhelming and dare i say dry at times. TLR While we have Eldritch horror this is no/little actual lovecraft works or lore involved
Here's hoping this is ok. Character name: Manfred Xavier Penningworth the 3rd (or just Manfred to his friends and close aquantices) Age: 35 (he's actually not really sure but that's he says when people ask) Gender: Male Race: Tomb colonist Occupation: Enforcer(Yes with the Black thorn sheleighleigh (Tough fighting cane) instead of brass knuckles) Clothing/Apperance: A rather tall man(6.4ft) wearing a black trench coat over a black vested suit with a dark red tie and black leather gloves over his hands to hide the bandages that cover his body. Upon his head he wears a rather interesting porcelain mask with a black hood that covers his entire head to again cover the bandages holding him together his reasons for wearing such a strange thing go as such "Well I doubt anyone could very well hold a conversation with a man that looks like he recently crawled out of an Egyptian tomb so I figure I may as well wear this. Besides I hear it makes some of the stupider blokes out there think I'm mechanical and I get a bloody good laugh at it after I put a nice dent in each of their skulls." He also wears a top hat and carries and maintains a golden pocket watch because a gentleman must have those.
I'm going to take this opportunity to ask what the hell is a Bruiser's vest and what is a fancy equivalent I can give to my mad immortal gentleman zombie?
A bruisers vest is a vest of sturdy make basicaly to look nice and give slight bodily protection from chest hits. Really the vest already has some class so it could be worn underneath your coat, a sturdy coat would be on par and so would iron toe boots.
Hmm iron toe dress shoes good for kicking people or a sturdy suit vest that is a pretty hard call but I'm going for the vest since a swift kick to the groin will take down most people anyways even without steel toed shoes and something akin to light armor will do him good since in combat he's basically going to be a berserker.
Hey @TuskatheDaemonKilla you want our characters to have some history/know each other prior? I was thinking big guy, small guy team up would work nicely. Could be fun. Our characters could have met by my character trying to loot from you because he thought he was dead for extra laughs. Character Name: Whisks "Cat Nip" LeTrounce Gender: Male Age: 28? (Do rat years apply?) Race: Rattus Faber Occupation: Pickpocket (thief's gloves, bowler hat) Whisks is a rat by more then just race alone. Always putting his nose in business where it doesn't belong, Whisks is a loud mouthed, blunt little rodent who isn't afraid to speak his mind when he should really keep it to himself. Though he is a thief-and a good one at-his marks are usually of the lavishly wealthy variety, what he classifies as "fat cats". He doesn't consider what he's doing stealing, more like "trimming the fat". Justifying his actions by knowing the bitS he steals to get by won't break the bank. "They have so much already, they're not going to miss a measly trinket or two. They'll hardly remember it was there." Life Goal: Steal enough to open his own bakery. Because banks are evil, and will drown you in business loans Personal Goal: Get in and out of every player's pockets at least once
