So, Brent. That's a very thoughtful look. What can you tell us about the faction Leadership that is in store? We've heard -it will be a group of 10 players that are elected from the strike force leaders. -it will be changed (though no details how long a post will be) -that there will be white-boards/maps for the council to draw up battle plans, and such. -that the council and strike force will be able to set objectives. Can you expand on that and/or share anything else yet?
Hoisted on my own petard! The Faction Council is in very early development - as we work our way through the rest of the economy and territory control features we're figuring out what sorts of responsibilities and features we can push to the Faction Council and working out their full design from there. That said, the purpose of the Faction Council is to provide a way for the community to drive the conflict in a way that is easily visible to ALL players. We're giving leaders the tools and mechanics to make this war much more than it could be if we forced them to organize outside the game or just used automated systems. When you first step out into the world, you'll be presented with objectives that help play out the strategies these players have devised, and if you don't like what they're doing you can work to get the support to do it yourself! The number of people on the council is not set yet, 10 is just an example of the scale of what we're thinking. However, the council members' jobs are to more to allocate resources and set high-level strategic goals. There will also be a system for commanders that do things like set objectives, use major strategic resources (supply drops, big guns, etc) and otherwise manage the war out on the field. There need to be a lot more of these, and at the moment we're thinking that they're appointed by the Faction Council. A lot of the Faction Council's job is in communication, so in addition to objectives they'll have ways to post messages to the whole faction at once. Keep in mind that the powers we give to the Faction Council are actually similar to the ones we give to Strike Force & Squad leaders, they just affect a lot more people.
So, will council members be like captains of the companies, or warbosses from the clans etc.? I like this, I actually made a thread kinda about leaders not too long ago, but with a different approach but yeah that sounds awesome dude. Sounds just like what I wanted
I hope this doesn't lead to having multiple chat windows or anything of the like popping up at the most inconvenient of times.
That's exactly what we would want to see in the game Not mindless mobs running around CoD-style, but armies united under one purpose This feature is key, I wonder how you guys will implement it With it, it's really going to be a living world, with more to it than just "frags" Something should motivate people get together and form long-term binds As far as I have seen, you are getting there
Faction leadership/order will make or break factions. Having the heads of major Strikeforces on the War Council is key. Having them active, constantly setting objectives to work towards ultimate victory - and everyone focused on those objectives - will determine who wins and who loses. Plain and simple, it's a team game. The more solo players a faction has, the less likely it is to win.
oh, i think Faction Councils must have a strategic view over all battlefield and they can play like the real time strategy, zoom in and out camera like in Supreme Commander, and make solution what point to attack, then Strike Force leaders must designate major strategy of attack, like "where to flang" and "where to defense", and squad leaders must organize this process in proper way, like where to cover and what enemy to attack
Macro to micro, Strategic to tactical, sounds like everyone will have the same tools, now it is just up to the members, from the lowest ranking person on the mission through the expedition commander to understand and execute orders. Team based games like this can fall a part very quickly when you get a bunch of 'lone wolves' running around.
How about something like this? Commanders can draw the direction in which their forces can go and everyone sees them on their map. Not just static markings on certain locations but direction arrows. Perhaps even add notes.(could get annoying if the commander isn't precise though)
