But, you don't become afflicted with the Black Rage just because a chaplain is around. It seems to me that you're trying to put the cart before the horse. I think the Black Rage should be an option that activates when you're close to death. Instead of actually going into the usual death threshold, you instead get to wander around instead and get to smash face (very hard). Afterwards though, you're automatically dead and have to respawn. The difference being is an apothecary can't resurrect you through the usual method, providing some sort of system like that is in place. Mephiston is the only one who has come back from the Rage at the moment, and part of him that is so cool would be diminished imo if every Blood Angel can do it.
"When a Space Marine is overcome by the Black Rage he is reborn in a world of anger, hatred, fury and nothing else. As well as Sanguinius’s memories, the Blood Angel is touched with a small portion of his unearthly power, boosting his strength and vitality to superhuman levels." "The Rage seems to lend those afflicted with a measure of the Primarch's might, granting them the strength to rend their foes limb from limb in bloody melee. However, by some unknown means, the flaw that produces the Black Rage also seems capable of extending the victim's lifespan, at least until he finally succumbs to the Rage" The Red Thirst A side effect of the Black Rage is the Blood Angels' greatly feared vampiric tendencies. They generally have pale skin, and a potent urge to drink the blood of their enemies that can emerge at any time during combat Umh i would be disappointed to see something like a featurless berserk bar that starts when u just press a button.. i mean we are not Khorne bersekers... there must be someway to adopt this "perk flaw" and transform it in a nice gameplay ability.
Even if the Black Rage would be implemented as a last ditch effort for a player to utilize on the field of battle before he "hits the deck" that's fine by me. The Chaplain would probably be able to help (class role) before an Astartes's body finally seizes up and the player would have to respawn. As for the Red Thirst, I agree with what fellow Battle Brothers "Unconquered" and "RockaGrand" on that issue spoke of in this thread.
I definitely think that some sort of gameplay element encapsulating the Red Thirst etc should be found in game, but I think that all chapter sort of abilities should be demonstrated as well. Dark Angels for example could be esoteric wargear, where as the Space Wolves could be Wolf claws instead of Lightning claws or something.
I just don't feel the Black Rage is going to work because its not a good thing. Its what happens when the Red Thirst consumes the BA; not supposed to be a good thing that happens. I say Just leave it out.
Sorry man, from what I read, not ALL Blood Angels exhibit the cannibalistic ways of the Flesh Tearers and Flesh Eaters; which are the chapters you described above.
