*quick edit. In most games where you "Drop In" to a combat zone. You always see where you're landing and guide the pod to your destination. But what if the Drop Pods were a BLIND drop? Here's my idea: The squad leader selects a drop zone for his squad in their Drop Pod. The pod "Drops" to it's intended target area. But the players view only the interior of the pod, they cannot see outside of the pod. There's no third person view or cams in the pod. Now just for clarification, I imagine there would be some interior lighting, so players wouldn't be "in the dark" when the Pod is descending. It's just a blind drop as the players anticipate the harsh crash of the Pod and once that door drops open, they're on their own with what ever is on the other side of that door. I think it would add a new sense of thrills and excitement, when the players don't know what to expect upon landing. It maybe clear? It maybe hot zone? Or it may be a miss drop that kills them all? Dunno?
I would love a blind drop, very exciting, less "gamey", not to mention elimate the problems ps2 currently has with massive drops on armored columns destroying the vehicles etc... Blind drops would save you some misuse crap, and add an element of suspense/realism. 2 birds. I did vote *wait and see
I was so close to voting yes, but erred on the side of caution. Would have to see it in action. In principal, I think it sounds great though.
Yes for me! I would love it if the screen fades from black into a first person view of the drop pods inside as you your marine is strapped inside. Hearing the rush of wind, the screen shaking, and an ominous voice counting down to landing with red lit interior. Then it hits, a final violent and jarring rattle of the screen and the sound of the door charges triggering, sending the door flying forward opening your view up to a bloody vista of chaotic war. As you exit the camera transitions back into third person and loads your hud in a second or so. You and your squad rally at the nearest cover immediately to get a handle on the situation just before you push on after the designated objective. So yes, it would be fantastic having such an experience, I was also a proponent of Drop Pods being a Squad leader spawn tool when the squad is wiped out that drops all 10 of them together as it should be.
With the real time transitions and the interior yes. Have to see how it works out... I can imagine squad leader giving you last minute info of the landing zone before land fall. Dim light interior of the drop bod as you get launched from low anchor. Hearing wind rush past and then retro rockets kicking in. As you hit the ground you see the red light on wall to turn green. Sirens blair as explosive bolts slams the door down and you are released from your gravity harness releases you and you open fire to your enemies... Yeah that would be nice...
Voted yes because its an amazing idea as long as we can view inside the pod with all the rumbling and turbulence as was we drop to the ground i think that would make it for me.
Personally I like the idea of selecting the drop, and then the chance of flakk and other air combat knocking it off course, or maybe out of the game entirely! Imagine that; Space marines are routing an Ork horde, they call in drop pods to cut off the orks and close the noose, but half a dozen dakkajets scream in and blow the pods out of the sky! Now the battle could go either way!!
