Hunger does something to the minds of men, Just read any story about sailors that live weeks or months without fresh water or food on rafts. The instinct to live makes you crazy (think starved khornate berserker) And the Sacking and raping,,, What military force did not do that in the 700-1945? All millitary's have some type of looting, raping and even murdering. The soldiers in the middle east arent all saints, And things were even worse back then. No rules, No one to enfore the rules if they existed and if you werent strong enough you sufferd. There are many stories about battles that exist only in the fantasies of men. You start a rumor, The rumor spreads and then when almost everyone has heard it it must be true right? The only way to know 100% what happened during those times, is to have been there. Not every knight / cruisader was a rapist, murderer and thief,,, tho many were all 3. The ''knights'' we all know and like are the, as you said it, romanticed, to make them look better, to make them more apealing. The knights were nobles, they were charged with protecting their or their masters lands. And 800+ years ago, You think people were less racists than they are now? Racism and belief does wonders when you go to war, A priest tells you that the enemy is not the same skincolor as you and that they belive in another god,,, yup you can go to war killing and raping and stealing as much as you like,,,, and no one will blink an eye.
So why is Gazkhul Thraka still running away from the Templars? There is only one thing more scary than an angry templar,,, they are human, dress nicely in lether coats, fancy hats and love to execute their own troops....
Twas an example, although I had no idea Yarrick was with the Templars. Either I missed something in the Ork codex or there's no update as to Ghazghkull's whereabouts, though I do know that he just got bored with Armageddon. Anyway, I really didn't want to start an argument over this, I was just pointing out that there are plenty of foes who don't fear the Templars, mostly because they don't feel fear at all.
The only thing in WH40k that dont feel fear are nids and necrons, Nids as long as they have synaps creature close by and necrons,,,, well they are just robots with self heal's. Orks can get scared easy and chaos,,,, well they can feel fear to. All of those shit bricks once a commisar hits the field Daemon princes look under their beds for commisars. Thats how scary they are,,,
Currently the lore stands that Helbrecth ,acompanied by yarrick, commanding a fleet of over 20 chapters managed to catch up to ghaz but gork and mork talked to ghaz and deactivated somehow the imperial fleet ships and the orks made their escape with a new mission. Right now acording to the nids codex Helbrecth fleet is fighting off Nids while trying to catch up the orks and not doing very well due to nids numbers.
With all this fighting about the 5th Chapter our High Marshall patiently waits for the opportunity to send a crusade, so the chosen of the Emperor can join the fight at Arkhona...
