Because Black, and its universal attraction of being edgy and cool! Black Templars are for the goody two shoes to look like edgy, evil guys without stepping out of their ''comfort zone''. Ho hoh hoh ho!
For me it is the fact that they are related,story-wise, to the Knights Templar, and the varied orders thereof. I love their back story, and the fanaticism that they fight with. It reminds me of groups like the Spartans! I am a history buff, and have recently started researching the history of the Knights Templar.
(I kid because I love. I would totally play BTs above all else except 'crons, given completely free choice)

Nice to see some Templar love going on here. Who knows, maybe I'll end up falling into ranks with them when this game gets going.
I thought that Black Templars were of the Teutonic Order, that's where design, customs, history, and even their badge were from.
NO PITY! NO REMORSE! NO FEAR! If it gets put to a vote on who the fifth faction is Black Templars have my vote. How can you eternally crusade without those who crusade eternally?! What would the Imperium be without the High Marshal and Emperor's Champion!? Omitting the chapter is borderline heresy in itself.
