Orwell and Ayn Rand both were able to foresee the future. It seems people have used them as "How To" books instead of warnings.
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8m8cQI4DgM I'm sorry Ayn Rand was an a** hole (in my opinion) As for actual topic here, War of The Worlds was a treat for me. I tend to enjoy a lot of older books from around that era. Early Sci-Fi horror was really something else. The book "Who goes there?" was really good too, its also what the 1980s movie "The Thing" is based off of.
I LOVE War of the worlds. I stick mainly to fantasy and sci fi books though. But I am always open for good recommendations
Ever read "Who goes there?" ? It is another good example of early Sci-fi horror. Up there with the likes of Lovecraft.
You may not like her but she has been very prescient. You may not like her (I disagree with some of her views), but she was very prescient. Many of the things she described in her books have come to pass. She was very accurate in her assessment of the growth of the state and the decline in individual freedom.
I didn't list Lovecraft as my favorite, but I do really like his work. It spawned a lot of imitators. Lumley did some Sword and Sorcery type books using the Lovecraftian Mythos.
I agree with you, but some of the views she had cant be overlooked. She may have been rather right about many things but the racism in her really made it hard for me to like her.
