Knee jerk much? They wanted voice comms so options are create inhouse or purchase from a prebuilt one to save on production time and quality in some cases. This is no different then BE using Pikkoserver, they are pairing up with Razer for voicecomms and the SDK, much like how a company uses a prebuilt game engine. From a business perspective this is a good thing, and from a developers point of view I would imagine it will free up time to work on the core game instead of the trimmings. Things such as voicecomms (Razer), Marketing, Customer Support, Publishing (Square-Enix) and as for Alienware/Dell a more likely reason for the partnership is affiliate marketing, and access to hardware related expertise(Server acquisition from Dell/Alienware? Hosting expertise?). Probably also reduced costs for purchasing certain pieces of hardware from Alienware in exchange for affiliate marketing and good ol money. ...I get skepticism sometimes but c'mon lets aim for a realistic outcome about things instead of the sky is falling mentality.
For everyone else who built their own tower: and i didn't know that my presence has been absent. I've been following threads you're in, I guess I just haven't been posting. Oh well, BACK TO THE SHADOWS!
For a long time I thought our community was better than this; I can see the point of some people, but to swing to the far "WE ARE DOOMED!" mentality of "THIS WILL NOW SUCK" or the "BLIND BANDWAGON FAN WAGON" on the opposite side of the pendulum I think is showing signs of a toxicity I distinctly wanted to avoid with this community; it's why I am active on these forums and not active on the forums of other games which have either held or currently hold my interest. I see too much of this drama inducing bull$&# on other forums; I don't want to see it here. You are free to have your opinions, but please don't speak it in a way which is indicative of all out flaming. No offense Gretchin~lover; I like you, you're a cool guy, but for some reason which has defyed my understanding, you've been in all out "hate train mode" for the last couple of weeks. I can understand why you are upset, you hoped for a fantastic game and in your mind a fantastic game requires that it be entirely self funded and have zero external partnerships right? If you were so heavily opposed to their consensus, you should of mentioned earlier which business partners to avoid. Made your voice known, rather than what you did do, which was to go "NO!" to everything. If you are so passionate about the game and want no involvement from anyone else; maybe you should back the development instead? Maybe you should have a one on one chat with the devs yourself at some point if they have time for it and you have time for it. Maybe you might get your concerns sorted out. I will assure you, if this game turns out to disappoint me, I won't be playing it. If however it doesn't disappoint me and I really enjoy it, I'll keep playing it after release. Just because you've had a bad experience with Razer and Alienware in the past, doesn't mean they will be a problem now. Influential or not, companies have to adhere to the restrictions placed on them in any contract and from the sound of it, it's bE who set the restrictions. I have my own doubts, I will be honest. But I have a healthy degree of skepticism; it's not like you've been burned by paying into an early access deal or anything. And saying that, no one is forcing you to buy a founders either if you are that fearful. Thing is I've been plenty burned, know how much money I've been ripped off of from EA? I've counted it... I lost $210 to SWTOR, I've lost $40 to WAR, I've lost $20 to a mistaken transaction for an expansion pack to which they never refunded me when I threatened legal retaliation via Paypal. On top of that I've lost nearly $120 to "founders packs" or "early access" hype to which I was foolish enough to buy into. I've lost count of how much money I've paid in subscriptions over the years and expansions for WoW, a game which I no longer play because I didn't like the direction Blizzard took the game. I got bloody plenty to sook about! A lot to complain about! I've lost thousands over the years! But I don't because that's reality, that's the real world. You can't do anything about it, all you can do is learn from it and have a healthy degree of skepticism and be more wise in your purchasing choices. Now I personally may not agree with some of the choices the developers of EC have made in relation to business partners, but I don't know the full story. Yes I find it irritating that I don't, but I tolerate it because I understand why. Now seeing how everything I've experienced which is likely worse than or as worse as that of which everyone else I've met has in the relation of being burned by false promises and things not being what we thought they would in our heads. I still hold firm to the belief that I will give everything the benefit of the doubt; one could say that makes me foolish, no, it makes me a tolerant person who is a gluten to try new experiences in video games. And you know why? Because it's my only outlet in life, other than pen&paper role playing games and wargames. The reason? Because I suffer from a collapsing retina in my right eye, I can't do adrenaline inducing activities or sports, also I suffer from depression and high anxiety; so I find even going out of my own house to be very stressful. So you should think about these sorts of things before getting angry at people who are going out of their way to make something we all have been waiting on for, for years. We are getting the Warhammer 40 000 video game we always wanted. I think they deserve at least the benefit of the doubt and at least we shouldn't judge until we see the final product. "Ignorance is a blunt weapon wielded by blindfolded people." As they say... Pretty sure the signs of a tornado are much more complex last time I checked, I don't even live in an area close to a tornado zone (and yes Australia "Officially" has a Tornado zone now), pretty sure it has to do with sudden changes in atmospheric pressure followed by sudden rain then sudden loss of rain, the sky does change to "multicolours" at night and the clouds drop heavily... I think. But it's mostly obvious in atmospheric pressure and humidity I think... Murtag is right, the sky most cirtainly doesn't turn "orange"; it does "sometimes" turn green, deeper shade of blue or yellow though.
Nope, green clouds. Has to do with all the gremlins inside running in tight circles I think. Honestly, I've never read such depressing and dire prophecies in all my life. Oh wait. No, I meant I've read them on every single game-in-development forum I've ever frequented. Unclench and go out for a walk or something.
Then the "blunt weapon" is being swung pretty wildly right about now.... As someone whom lives in the Midwest of The United States, I can assure you the sign of a tornado are many, and living here you pick up on them as 2nd nature. further more more my message was not as a forecaster...Least not for the weather.... While your sitting there picking apart the metaphor, Others will see the meaning in it. However some need help moving things along so i'll do it. Its NOT the fact that B'E chose companies like alienware, razer, ect to join up with. Its the inevitable decisions that come after, that you know you aren't going to like... People complain about this or that "oh why did they choose EA, or use EA's origin" ect. For me if it was that easy to screw things up so early, then I already know whats coming down the line.
screamimg around "WE GONNA DIE ALL" without nothing of concrete ( for example a logo of alienware/Razor on the shoulderpads: something really ridiculus) is bad and not really usefull, but is not a terrible things, because when the game is live you see that there is nothing of that the doomsday siren scream about ( we hope). the real problem? mindless optimism mindless drone "the game will have no bug at all" "the game gonna be perfecly balanced because the dev say it" "the game will have 200fps with 30000 player on the screen wih a vodoo2 gfx" "the game will be lag free even if you play from the moon" ect ect be a mindless fanboy hurt the game MORE than someone with doubt, it' more toxic. even if EC is the best game in the history will still have problem and issue like all the game in existence
Myself on some of my members tried Razer comms, didn't really like it to be honest but if it gives us good in game comms then I'm all for it
