What does a voip program have to do with graphics?

  3. I'm sorry, but what do their business partnerships have to do with building a great game?
A stupid question, I know, but in this case I feel it is valid question.

Miguel and Co. have been very open with us on what they want from their partners, the level of quality that they aim to (going to) achieve, and what compromises they are going to make (very, very little if any).

On top of this, I think the folks at bE understand that eyes are on them, on both sides of the industry. Frankly, they can't afford to make major blunders in this project. They certainly are not going to jeopardize this project, their careers, and their reputations on shoddy partnerships.

You have already doomed this game, and it's not even out of its infancy yet.

What I've seen so far proves the opposite of what you are saying. This is going to be a AAA game with great support and quality built right from day 1.

I think he's merely pointing out that we shouldn't be acting like blind fanboys and take everything about this project with a grain of salt until we get to beta. It's foolish to just blindly follow this project and defend their every move but at the same time you are also right in saying its far too early to spout doomsday theories about the game's demise as well.

I know it's a bit of a stretch but that's what I felt when reading between the lines of his post...sort of

  5. All im going to say is if the sky is turning orange, and the clouds look usually fluffy, your more than likely in tornado weather. You now the whole "if it walks, and talks like a duck, then it must be a duck " saying? yea. Ive seen this "winning" stew of disaster before. Sponsors play a much bigger role in games than you think. You'll remember this when your getting bombarded with razor, Alienware ads in-game... These companies are alot of things, but subtle ain't one of em.

We all got a little over confident when we say they didn't sign up with EA. like "phew" the worst is over...Well now it looks like They are about to overcompensate the (close shave) it looks like.

with all respect, I think you are exaggerating. I just pulled two games off my shelf: Fallout 3 and Warhammer Online. Both were sponsored or w.e the term is by Alienware (the logo on the box). So the Alienware thing isn't really relevant to the player, nor is abnormal. On a similar token, the Razer sponsorship won't matter, and the software used from them will just be like some game paying for software for some component (e.g. gamespy for communications in LOTRO). I don't have anything to say about Square Enix, but they need a publisher supposedly, so why not them?

  7. It's almost like people are just reading the headline and not the articles. Both partnerships are going to be playing to the strengths of what each particular company works at. Razer does headsets and peripherals among other things, while Alienware makes shiny (if not overpriced) computers. Razer will be helping with the in-game VoIP system (which will be nice to have built in) and Alienware gives the devs equipment to work on so long as they make sure to always point out who built the equipment. Behaviour gets some outside help and nice stuff to work with, whike the other companies get even more brand awareness/exposure/whatever. So long as they don't go and put ads in-game (lore-breaking no matter how you look at it) I think it's fine. I'm interested to see what happens on the graphics card front, as recently some studios have been getting on board with Nvidia dev tools at the expense of those using AMD cards (see Watch_Dogs) I'm hoping Eternal Crusade stays clear of graphics card brand favoritism.

Okay so Alienware is funding part of this just to get some advertising done for themselves and then Razer is providing voice chat. The first makes no changes to gameplay and the second is there to provide us with a chat system their company specializes in.
The biggest concern would be Square Enix but frankly I'm not worried. Look at all the game information we've received already. Look at the goals they have. This was all done with SqEn as the publisher the entire time. They might have the power to demand features but so far BE has had a lot of freedom it seems.

But don't mistake me as a blind fanboy. I was over at the Space Marine forums well before the game was released and although I was still very excited for Space Marine, there were plenty of times I voiced my concerns with the game. Not just things I saw, but the absence of certain information in certain areas which seemed like an ominous sign that they were hiding those facts because they knew they were bad.
I really wish the forums were still up so I can show you. Maybe someone here will remember my view on the game pre-release.

Regardless, I see no reason to be weary of Eternal Crusade at this point. They are extremely open to the community and I cannot see any flaws at the moment. I'm not saying have blind faith, you should still keep youre eyes open, but its too early to throw a red flag on it.

I dont think there are any flaws in the partnership with Alienware and Razor, but I do think its a bit annoying when at least 90% of the players have built towers. The promos are going to be a bit silly.
