Chaos favors are actually really good in the right hands. As far as building vs eldar its kinda lame that ALL my ships need taunt yet he can build w/e he wants to fight me. Imo best way to balance eldar is to double the cost of their escorts and raise their main ships by 25%to 50% they are supposed to be heavily outnumbered in pretty much every major engagement lore wise. Also orks need their bigger ships point values dropped but at the same time weaken their shields more.
Not actually, you don't get to build whatever you want as Eldar either. For example, against Chaos with Tzeentch favour, you will have to get probe unless you want your ship to be shot to death without even being able to shoot back.
As someone who has both a n imperial and an eldar battleship, I can say that Eldar aren't as strong as people perceive them to be. A chaos fleet going full speed ahead will be capable of catching up to most if not eldar ships. Chaos, being full of carriers, is capable of bringing both bombers and fighters to the table, rendering eldar bombers useless and at the same time giving you the ability to hit back and hit hard. Khorne favor allows you to board and do pretty nasty stuff to eldar ships, tzeentch favor allows you to become invisible and render their guns useless while you can fight back, nurgle is pretty good if you've got taunt and slaanesh makes it so eldar can't use their skills, thus making them as useful as a pebble thrown at a tank. On the other hand, Eldar's "shields" are capable of negating up to 80% of the lance shots that come at them, while handling only 50% of the macro-cannon ones, giving you the option of crushing them with such weaponry. Now, keeping that in mind, consider the fact that eldar ships have a 100% higher chance to take critical damage, don't have actual shields that stop damage, but instead increase their dodge chance, have relatively low health and aren't much faster than a chaos fleet and you've got the rough idea how to beat them. Only faction that can easily be countered by Eldar are orkz due to their really low speed and "accurate" guns.
No faction should be countering another though. They should all be viable if played well. orks have to take taunt due to speed issues, and their carriers are so over priced that they arent a practical option. IG and Chaos are both in a good spot from what I have seen other than if chaos ever gets close to an ork they are usually screwed. Eldar however have so much potential ina good players hands it isn't funny. I once saw an eldar cover twice the distance a MWJ would give and in half the time. Yes they fold when hit but good players control their ships to the point where they don't even enter your weapon arcs. Plus eldar dmg is kinda high. I say that after watching them bring 2 ships in behind an ork battle cruiser with full hull points and then fully destroy it in one pass. How do you counter that other than take overshield on everyone and never be able to catch anyone. Oh and fix the nova canon either keep the accuracy and cut the CD or make it accurate.
Honestly, I'm quite satisfied the performance of the Nova Cannon, especially when it two-shots an eldar ship in a 300 points game. Now, regarding the Eldar, I've never seen one good enough to shred through a group of chaos or imperial ships much like you describe, yet that might fall to the fact that I haven't seen such a good player or that such tactics are less viable against imperials.
I've seen the computer do it. Maybe its a damage bug. Problem with nova canon seems to be that minimum range and direction. Once you engage its super difficult to ever get another shot off even with positioning. Heck I end up putting it on auto cast after the first shot or just ignoring it and going for a ram that will probably destroy it. I do think it critting for 1 hit ko's is a bit extreme. If your fast enough though most escorts from eldar can power boost out of the red circle or at least to the edge of it. Anyways. Question have any of you done the negotiations mission during campaign? My rando eldar AI buddy decided he prefered to be an ork and rammed the ork battleship. Suffice to say the AI's idea caused a very fast defeat since I was supposed to keep him alive.
Tasty roadmap right there Interesting though that • Fleet Color You will be able to customize the color of your ships. Falls under in a few months, I'm surprised it wasn't already in or something that could be rapidly adapted.
