  2. Striking Scorpion

... Neither? If EC gives the melee choice of Assault Marines / Raptors like Space Marine did... You will actually see Swooping Hawks, crudely using melee weapons... or simply being a jump troop equiv using its laser weapons. And yeah... Storm Boyz for the green skins.

If howling banshees or striking scorpions are utilized... you won't be having a good time playing them. You will get shot to pieces by other players circle strafing / backpeddling. The only chance they have to be decent are skills or traits to close the gap. I don't see it happening.

Scorpion using stealth to close in (or something similiar) and has armor that can withstand bolter fire.
Banshees will just use dodge to close in. Both have superior mobility compared to marines. So I can't see why we would have hard time.
    Schaden and Valihdyahr like this.

Banshees should have a faster sprint on one button and a dodge button in the controls.

A'lot of games have increased speed for various classes... from the rogues " on use " ability from World of Warcraft, To the " stab " build of Modern Warfare 2. While i too feel the scorpions should get these bonuses that make them what they are... through years of videogames i know that it will be easier for them to be left out of the game. I already read elsewhere on these forums that Stealth mechanics will not be used or be short term at best.

I can see a game where they are implemented... and have all the utility that makes them as close to canon as possible... but it still looks very bleak. There are other factors to how well they will perform. Such as other human beings on your team: Typically the number one aspect of failure. Picture yourself breaking LOS to run at the enemy... you zig, you zag... you blow a short term stealth skill to get a one hit kill on the target most furtherest back, then even manage to kill another before your demise ( and that is being very generous, cause there probably, sadly, won't be 1 hit KO moves ... even in melee ). Respawn timer. And during that time... all your team did was continue to fire from cover, killing nothing, not advancing in the time window you gave them. You get back to the fight, and try to engage again, after telling your team to move up when you attack ( they probably won't... you know this, but you say it mostly out of frustration that they were so ignorant the first time ). When you engage, the ranged opponents simply move LOS from your team, and focus fire on you. You die.

Even outside of playing with random teamates... The scorpion would need more than mobility for close combat to work. When you cleave together ranged teamates, their synergy on almost every videogame is above average. I want 40k Melee to be viable ( because we all know it is a huge part of 40k ). Taking less damage... and having a threat level of : you never beat them in close combat, as ranged, ever... would be ideal. Otherwise... people will just play ranged and kite... camp... hide all day long.

I don't expect a melee class to win a ranged battle standing at 50 feet away... i also don't expect a ranged class to beat a melee class at 3 feet away.

Nice attitude ''Mr. Sunshine''. Maybe you should play games that wont have melee possibility ?
You missed so many points that I'm upset. And that is the worst case scenario. What if my melee charge got enemies so upset they abandon cover and will die to my mates supportive fire ? =)

And about that mobility. All eldars are very mobile. Scorpions just a bit less because thicker and heavier armor. But still more mobile in many ways than any other race.

First off, the typical shooter player may get upset... but they are far too fearful of death to do anything outside of cheap tactics and hiding. KDR to them... is what status is to real life. I'm not saying you should buy CoD:Ghosts ( seriously... theres already hack mods... and it's terrible anyway, so don't ), but if you played it right now... in a public team deathmatch... you wouldn't even question the cowardice and self-centered gameplay happening every second. But that is a random team scenario... I wasn't talking about a premade team, working together who have good knowledge of each class and individual players.

Also, iv'e played games with melee possibility... that have turned out garbage... with melee classes getting rolled 99 times out of 100 ( as in destroyed without a chance ). I don't want this game to turn out like that. Hence why i brought up the fact they will need more armor ( % damage resist and / or health )... and have a well known presence in melee ( it wrecks people, and everyone tries to avoid it... not just stand and keep shooting ). It's the other end of the scale that i don't want either. I'm sure you wouldn't mind jump troops again like in Space Marine... but i would. All i did was play Assault Marine / Raptor... and nothing outside of hacks stood a chance.

Everything viable... is what i seek. And it requires changes from common lore, unfortunately.

Disagree about the people needing hacks. If you brought a melta and played right you can usually kill an Assault Marine.

Let's hope they'll find good balance between factions and classes so everything will be viable ^^

Heh... The Melta A.K.A. victimized weapon of videogames... downgraded to the rank of " Space Shotgun ".

You are correct that you could... but generally they die as soon as they are in the open, since every other weapon bar close combat have the advantage. Yeah... i mean, a new assault player might not pick up on what weapon he had, and try to kill him, and die. If the entire enemy team had Meltas then only my teamates would be getting kills. But switching loadouts during the game is a bit of a moot point... because anyone can change to have an advantage. Aside from that... if they changed to close range superiority because an assault marine keeps killing them... I've done exactly what i aimed to do.

And i think you underestimate a skilled Assault / Raptor.

EDIT: Not that being good at the class actually even takes skill... but the ones that keep playing and refining it become an asset.
