Astartes Combat Music

Discussion in 'Space Marines' started by ProteusVM, Oct 18, 2013.

  1. This track (Here Comes the King - X-Ray Dog) infuses me with a huge amount of fervor. Makes me want to obliterate Heretics in the Emperor's name.

  2. Pretty much any Two Steps from Hell songs will fit into 40k, especially if they are from Invincible.

But for some reason, Radioactive makes me think of a Deathworld like Armageddon, describing the average day for a member of the Armageddon Steal Legion. I am really not sure why...

    Bumping this up.
  4. Thanks everyone for all those great suggestions. Keep posting them!

Just a small favor, if you guys could elaborate a bit on your suggestion it would be even more helpful. Even if you are no musician, try to explain what you like about those tracks. Is it the heavy pounding rythm? the uplifting melodies? the instruments?

Also don't forget to mention to which faction it would fit the best.

We would like for each faction to have a distinct music signature

I personally like men choirs (if that's the right word), which start singing at the most "exciting" sequences. I think this gives a great touch and could also represent Astartes singing/praying/shouting whilst in the heat of the fight.

would like to see chapter specific tracks, as well as possibly class specific and situation, state of level ect. Apocalyptica style would certainly suit Space Marines, as there is a good variation of tempo and style.

For Space Marines heavenly choirs and brass sections are a MUST!
Chaos needs that heavy drum pounding and dark chanting.
    Orks need tribal music.
Eldar need some sort of mysterious and very alien sounding music (synth and filtered instrument sounds)

For mine (Meshuggah - Concatenation), I mainly really like it due how soulless and crazy yet controlled it feels. There's no real melody, no hook and no real sense of human emotion. Instead of these things commonly heard in music it's replaced with pure controlled madness, with mechanical like sound, odd yet firmly controlled and powerful songwriting and relentless screaming which is abolished of any human warmth. As for what faction I think it would suit best, I would say it would suit Dark Eldar or Necrons if they ever get released or included in the game. This is because in my opinion they are the only races in the 40K universe that represent music like Meshuggah perfectly since Necrons are pretty much emotionless robot spectres of death while Dark Eldar and frantic and lack any emotional connection to other races or even allies. They thrive of speed and pain which appear soulless to other races in the 40k Universe.
