I'd like to see a generic "base model" that we can alter and design. Colour, logo, patterns etc can all be viewed on it. Plus some slight armor changes: helmet, pouldrons and chest. Then when i select an aspect the aspect model is designed off the base model. Major items change, but the things that could be implemented across the board remain.
i agree and think that if you offer this ability, players will feel better about their characters. Also if guilds can customize their armor like we did in DOW and DOW 2, it would show their unity.
As far as I'm concerned, the helmet is an intrinsic part of the Aspect Warriors aspect identity. That being said, there will need to be places where lore, canon and video game design choices collide; this may very well end up being one of them.
Please don't take the customization options in Dawn of War as remotely canon--those choices were made so that you could customize your identical armies so that you could readily tell who was who in a top down RTS game. Nobody will be playing hot pink Ultramarines.
We need a poll to determine how many people would like hot pink Ultramarines, definitely. I'm on the wagon of these cosmetic options being problematic too, paying money for something nobody will notice. Though I'm probably the type, when I'm playing Eldar (which so far will be my main character I reckon), I'd buy a lot of stuff because I can always see it myself (or lacking that option, be aware I'm wearing said items) Very dependant on how close to eachother we can get, and how big the symbols are, though most of them will indeed be barely noticeable probably ?
The most important thing I long for: Please make all models and textures look realistic and esthetically similar like this famous artwork by Neil Roberts I hate cartoonish style and esthetics of old GW miniatures and art, honestly, so I won't provide that rainbow picture you all have already seen as an example of bad taste. If permitted, I can share my view on "decoration" process and progress: all decorative customizations should still look functional or at least not restrictive there should be restrictions in color pallets for every craftworld to avoid distasteful bright mess and colors combinations visual customization should be added to the base model of standard type item (armour, weapon, etc), while most rare items should come with unique 3D models and inbound irremovable decorum each decorative element should have a restriction on place to wear it on (sorry for my english) all 'ribbons', 'beads' and 'baubles' should have either home craftworld theme or some achievement memento there should be limit on number of decorum for one model, over-embellished characters look repulsive it would be nice to have tunable level of shabbiness (scratches, scuffs, dirt, etc) I know it's very hard to implement, but still - overlapping or hanging in the air models of sheathed weapons/equipment are awful immersion breakers for me As for customization options, though most reasonable has been already mentioned, let me provide my wish-list too: Banners Additional functional equipment (target-locks, scopes, shimmershiels, grenades, etc) Soul stones (glimmering, glittering, shining, dull, and so on), inlaid and hanging on cords Gilded, silvered edging and/or inscriptions Loincloths Ribbons and pouches of different colors, materials and markings Runes of different colors and materials, inlaid and hanging on cords Thanks for reading. P.S. I hope to see similar topic from devs in CSM sub-forum soon!
