That kind of depends how many people jump on board and help, if its just us two then id hate to even speculate on a date for release or pre-alpha whatever you want to call it. There is just too much stuff to do. Like for example to model and do the geometry (collision) lod and not even texture a fully working building takes about a day (if you have no problems)(im sure this time will come down the more i get the hang of it). so if if we want a few types of building there are about 4 days work involved in each to get it to completion at a decent quality (each building hasto have a "rubble/ruined" model for when its destroyed, collision, shadow, fire and view geometry, minimum of 3 texture components (DIFF/SPEC/BUMP) to get it acceptable for in game use) and each thing like a door/ladder/ etc and the building its self need a configuration file "writing". The more help we get the faster it goes. Anyone want to help us? Give us details of what you can/or would like to do, and if you don't know how we will teach you/help you find information etc. Thanks for the interest and comments guys.
I hope you guys manage to make this mod as functional as OFP 1 Wh40k. I guess you could take some inspiration from it as Arma 1\2 is basically a successor to Operation Flashpoint 1, the engine is very similar. The guys from OFP WH40k mod made it easier for themselves by 'ripping off' models and textures from DoW 1, it turned out it works perfectly. I'm a huge fan of this mod and generally of Operation Flashpoint and Arma series, these are great engines giving the moders almost limitless possibilities.
That depends. There are thousands different mods and 'borrowings' from different games that function all the time, I don't think modders would undertake anything if they were likely to risk being sued. Perhaps it's all about how old a given game is, DoW 1 textures and models were/are being used till today in OFP 1 Wh40k mod, the modders have a website where they share the mod and missions and nothing seems to be happening so far.
well actually the ofp guys got permission to use the stuff from THQ in there mod, however we want to create all our own stuff and that's why it takes longer. But ultimately it will be for the best. i dont think its an issue until you try to make money, then you must get a license from GW.
While true, THQ has been kinda iffy about it in the past. I seem to recall this being a problem around the time a source 40k mod was being considered.
