Are we cool with Toughness?

I use my pistol allot, i run out of ammo most of the time.

I notice it barely if i am wearing Artificer or Relic armor that add's toughness, it seems to make so little diffrence with everything dealing too much damage to even notice a change in damage resistence.

21% damage resistence means you can survive 2 more rounds, most melee with power weapons negate any resistence so, i doubt it.

With all the penetration on weapons, toughness becomes pretty shit unless you are fighting a poor bastard LSM using a bolter.

    To be honest....

I have no clue what toughness does in this game....
And I have no idea how penetration works against armor aswel xD

I'm all aboard doubling stats across the board after they get adjusted to suit their faction (like Eldar not having the same baseline stats as marines or orks having more toughness than marines)

Toughness reduces percent of damage. So if you have a toughness of 125 and your enemy has base damage 100 with penetration of 100. Then he will do 75 damage to you. If he has 125 penetration or greater then he will do his full 100 damage. There is no negative penetration increase. So 250 penetration does not double damage.

So? Toughness is usless, stack Hp and be MVP.

my ork with almost 300 health and upgraded armor still gets one shot by plasma cannons and swooping hawk rifles. If i can get a loadout that allows me to take a hit from one of those and survive then toughness is worth it.

Its kind of a nerd herd thread ... i used to be a MUD programmer ... and i ran some classes and guilds as the creator .... i was proposing a damage system that is much simpler for the players to understand and to decipher .... essentially the present damage system is broken down into percent damage reduction .... toughness is percent damage reduction and penetration subtracts from it ... in the bottom of the fraction that determines your final damage reduction percentage ... its basically 2 opposed % damage numbers but they put in a weird logarithmic diminishing returns on toughness .... I highly recommend if you care about the damage system you read and throw in your 2 cents there ...

Which negates by default all weapons with penetration.

if you really want to break down your TTL you need to first convert into EHP effective health pool ... which means just add your hp and armor together .... this is your "gross non adjusted health pool" then multiply it by ::
    1.(toughness rating-pen (minimum 0))
and you will get the basic estimate of your ELP then just divide it by the weapon damage rating to see how many shots ... and rof to see how long that will take .... its not exact ... but its a lot simpler than going through the ACTUAL damage formula to figure in the diminishing returns you are only going to be off by but so much ......

Hunter's Mark is one thing, but charged plasma cannon shots are generally meant to be OHK. You might call it cheap but it's a charged attack, it can be stopped and once a plasma cannon devastator is hit in melee they lose the entire charge.
