Has anyone done a video about this? I too would like to see how it's done. You either park your transport near a capture point meaning there's buildings/other LOS breaking stuff all over, allowing a meltagunner to come in out of nowhere or you park your transport in the middle of an open space in the hopes of shooting any meltagunners before they reach the transport but becoming target practice for everyone who's not meltagunning. I'd also like to know how many people it takes since from what I read 3-5 people aren't enough to stop a single suicidal melta-bomber most of the time. Seeing how every person defending a transport is someone who isn't helping break the defenders at the capture point nor are they helping defend any capture points from a counter-offensive either (in addition to losing out on most of the XP/Requisition a match can offer, both of which are the things advancement and unlocking of wargear are based on), I'd assume having any effective amounts of defenders for vehicles would stretch forces so much that attacks (and likely defences too) would become severely undermanned.
What a hypocrisy. This tactics doesn't work on eldars or space marines as was mentioned before. It only works against orks, since orks don't have any melta + meltabomb equivalent that would destroy rhino in 3 seconds
Some people's arguments in here suggest they must be brand new to the game, so... welcome! The objective @Jawrippa is to prevent the guys with the Meltas from getting within 15 meteres of the tank. It depends on where the tank is parked. You don't HAVE to park the tank right next to the objective. You can also have a 5 manned predator sitting nearby. If 5 of your teammates manning extremely heavy anti-infantry weapons let that tank die, then ... Well I feel bad for you son because that's some serious incompetence. There's a reason why Tank Crews get 25% less xp per kill. If a whole 5 man squad gets in a tank, they share the xp between them. Their weapons also cannot be suppressed and cause suppression. Together they get an ungodly amount of kills. Pre-launch, in the days of insta gibbing melta, tank crews, and notably the main gunner, theyd run with KDR as high as 72:0.
That's still 5 players out of the whole team guarding a vehicle. Those players could have just been pushing for another point & very likely take it.
I'm on my phone so my post is almost never complete the first time around, sry. Here's the deal. I'm not going to tell people how to play, but this is a tactical game. Taking 5 people (4 because Storm Bolter is only really needed if you're knee deep in FDs) and sticking them on an armored weapons platform basically makes you impervious to melee and plasma spam, in addition to laughing off the threat of small arms fire while offering a huge mechanism as long range Anti-infantry fire support. You're being unimaginative if the only thing that pred is good for is sticking around gaurding the transport. The thing is very capable at multi-tasking.
I've taken out fully manned Predators all by myself with CSM Meltagun & Melta bomb. All it takes is the vehicle needs to be under fire or facing away from you.
I kinda wish the Predator Autocannon would get buffed VS infantry. It is after all an Anti-infantry/light-medium armored vehicle killer. CSM get pretty much the same weapon as a portable infantry carried weapon.
