Well it's mainly because I've already done a lot of research on this subject myself. Eventually I decided that since that I, nor the people who spread FET, can actually go into space like those astronauts and see it for ourselves, I'll stick with what are facts. Those facts being that earth is not flat. But I'll go ahead and entertain this "theory" for a little bit. Let's say the earth actually IS flat, like they used to say a long time ago. During that time, there was an actual *edge* of the planet, where you could fall off the earth into a never ending void. So, from what I've read, FET believers think that there is no edge, and that the government is hiding the fact that there are millions of miles of untouched land beyond Antarctica, which also goes around the whole planet. If people wanted to hide this fact from the public, why would they suddenly endorse the idea that the earth was round, even though everyone believed that earth was flat at the time? The whole round earth thing has around since somewhere around 200 BC, the only thing that kept the flat earth theory going was a tyrannical church that would kill anybody and destroyed anything that they deemed "heretical", which would be anything that went against what the church said.
Actually the Romans ,Greeks and even the church believed the earth was round. People have known the earth is a sphere for millennia due to several calculations by astronomers ,scholars and philosophers like Eratosthenes. Columbus was actually wrong he thought the earth was smaller than it really is and wanted to sail across the Atlantic to get to China but ended up in the Caribbean after months of sailing open ocean. The flat earth theory makes my head hurt just thinking that there are people so ignorant and mislead I will not be posting here again.
I think we have to accept the fact that FET simply doesn't know enough right now. They don't have dedicated scientists to explore these things, anyone that has tried to has been turned down by the government (Which is shady). So what lies beyond the unknown is well, unknown... The point of this movement at this point is to clean the slate and relearn the world. Although it can be confusing at first, there is evidence in the way society reacts to the flat earth theory. Our culture currently could be more easily compared to North Korea than it can a truly free thinking society like the Renaissance. The way this world reacts to conflicting theories in this current age is not healthy and shows signs of a deteriorating people. A big 'hint' that there is something wrong with our world view is the way NASA handles their missions. Everything just feels shady. A good example was the recent RED BULL jump from space. For some reason they decided to use a 'fish eye' lens instead of leaving it be. When the fish eye lens is correct, we see a perfectly flat plane. Finally, the nail in the coffin. We as the people have the ability to compare the world we see with video games. It sounds funny at first but when you think about it, it's not that crazy. Playing No Mans Sky or Elite Dangerous show exactly how a planet should look if it were curved. Maybe we wouldn't notice being on the planet itself, but we see the change as you fly further away from the planet. The point I am making is; In the video game, we see the horizon lower because it's a curved object. In reality, the horizon always rises to eye level. If you're on a sphere, you are ALWAYS looking down since your naturally on the highest point (relatively) on its surface. [Sorry if that was long winded]
Er dude, No Man's Sky and Elite Dangerous are video games, they aren't going to actually represent a full scale planet. I'm sure they're large maps, but they're just maps and restrained by data limitations. A real planet is going to be much much larger than anything a video game can produce. You can also see a slight curvature of the Earth in space photos. Really I think the reason society is dismissive of a flat earth is because we have international travel, I think if there was an end of the earth someone would have noticed by now, like all the Japanese people that like to visit Hawaii. Or all those sailors that ship cargo across the oceans.
A scientist doesn't need permission from a government to conduct experiments unless they were otherwise illegal. If you want to argue Antarctica, it's protected by international law because of the arms race. Back then it was designated a no military zones by all countries, only allowing naval vessels to go there but only on high seas, not by the shelves. Antarctica has been also established as a free zone of scientific investigation. If anyone has been turned down by a government to go there for FET, I want to see the proof. The red bull jump was 24 miles in the sky, that's not even half close to low earth orbit, any curvature you would see at that height would be minuscule, we're talking like a 4 degree curve, maybe. The GoPro, which are the cameras they used, always has a fish eye effect on the camera. Whether they did this for product placement or to exaggerate the curvature of earth, I have no idea. I can't speak for No Man's Sky, I do play Elite: Dangerous. I don't have Horizons because I'm not a fucking shill who spends 60 bucks on early access games that only let you land on a barren planet and then completely screw over their original customers by making them pay another 60 bucks for a game that already includes the one they originally bought. Sorry, mini rant there, I'm still pissed off about their pricing model. Anyway, the only argument I can make against that (considering I can't land on planets) is that not all the planets in the game are going to be the same exact size as earth. Show me one that's a very similar size to earth and then fly the ship up to 39 km above the planet then look straight out to the horizon. Actually, in Elite: Dangerous, they procedurally generate full-scale celestial bodies. Meaning that you can find planets that are the same size, or 4x bigger than earth. As you'd imagine, there is very little to see on those planets, especially since they are planets that have no atmosphere and are rocky/icy. The rocky/icy planets are the most dull planets in ED.
Haha, well if you buy it for me, then yes, I'll no doubt show you. I might consider it actually for my own curiosity.
