Anyone Else A Little Perplexed At The Official List Of Ork Classes?

Discussion in 'Orks' started by Psychopski, Jun 24, 2014.

  1. Orks
    • Shoota
    • 'Eavy/Loota (final name TBD)
    • Stormboy
    • Painboy
    Eavy Loota = Devastator and Havoc
    Stormboy = Assault
    Painboy = Apothecary

    I'm perplexed about the Shoota class... seems a bit generic. Is this more of a Slugga-Shoota? A Mekboy wielding a combi-shoota(shoota-skorcha or shoota-rokkit launcha) along with their strange contraptions and stick bomb bundles? A "Mista Nailbrain" type class from DOW 2, with the mini-teleporta.

    While there's no definitive information on the Shoota class as of yet, nor is there any information on Shoota weaponry, it seems like the easiest path to mirroring the Space Marine Tactical Class, which doesnt feel very unique to the Ork faction with plenty of other well known types of Orks out there.

    I was also under the distinct impression Orks would be a more melee centric faction in EC and would have a dedicated melee class as a basic class(non Stormboy, non hero). Will there be ability to wield a shield and a 1 handed weapon, with a shoota type weapon as back up. Or can we opt for a 2 hander slung across the back along with a 1 handed choppa and a big ass shield. Orks are know for carrying a vast assortment of weaponry on their body.... will that be properly represented in game?

    The green tide's melee pain train should consist of more than just Stormboyz as a basic class for the PAID/PREMIUM customers.

    I'd rather trade off the ability to fly for more armor, thicker armor, a huge shield and a wide variety of melee weapons strapped to my belt and across my back. Is there really going to be no sort of pure melee Nob class(again, NON-Stormboy) as a basic unit for the Ork faction?

    While I do like the idea of elite and Hero classes having a long cool down and taking some work to purchase via resources, I really dislike the idea of having to gather resources several days to a week just to play an Ork melee class for one lifespan(from spawn in until death) in a 40K game. I dont need expect a Mega Nob as a basic class for Orks. I do however expect Orks to have more than one choice for melee as their core line up, one of which doesnt require flying around in the air.

    What about Ardboyz and Skarboyz?

    I know I'm probably getting way ahead of myself here, but I hope the FTP players arent being used as reason for justifying underwhealming or underpowered PAID/PREMIUM classes for the Ork faction players.

    You guys may want to chime in on the sticky thread in the General Forums and start speaking up and asking questions so we can get some clarity.

    I've got a feeling that the orks appeal is going to be humour. Got to be careful not to make them the joke faction. They should be powerful but erratic.

    This idiom could be made to work in their favour i.e stormboyz would find that they occasionally jink about a bit then lose the majority of their control, ploughing into whatever they can before exploding. The explosion being powerful enough to take out a tank/squad.

    Survivability is not the highest priority of the green tide. So the player needs to be giggling as they die.

    That said the Orks are going to be the most overtly customizable faction as well, so their lack of class choice would be offset by this.

    I'm a bit confused too. Where is the basic slugga ? Wasn't that what the demo orks get ? Are they shootas now ?
    There was talk of skarboyz komandoos before. Maybe they are elite only.

    Maybe the devs plan to give the shoota a huge number of loadout options similar to what the tac marine gets. Similar for the eavy loota.
    But the mele class remains a mystery at least to me.

    as there's assault marines without jumppacks (but stormshields) i think there's gonna be a similar option for orks, so stormboy = slugga

  7. Though I fully realize we wont really know anything until players get hands on during Beta, I'd imagine premium/paid Ork players wont see the humor in getting steamrolled on the battlefield because the Ork faction is supposed to be cannon fodder or a joke for the other 3 factions.

    I love greenskins for so many reasons, one of the main reasons being their comical, haphazard approach to combat. The other being their ferocity and bloodlust for battle. I had a lvl 100 Choppa in Warhammer Online and it was by far my most enjoyable character, along with my Squig Hunter and Goblin Shaman. That said, they should be have their own unique styles of waging warfare in the form of unique classes that dont mirror their human and eldar counterparts.

    Eavy Loota and shoota classes just seem redundant for Orks when there's only 1 basic melee class being offered as basic classes. If anything make a single ranged class for Orks that can use the lighter shootas, burnas as well as the heavy Deffguns, and double down on the number of basic melee classes available to Ork players. Stormboyz and Ardboyz, or Stormboyz and Scarboyz. Or a melee Nob Kommando.

    Orks arent constrained by the Codex so I dont see why they need 2 separate ranged classes in order to "mirror" Space Marine/CSM Tactical and Devastator/Havoc classes.

    It might just be a mistake they listed shoota boy as a basic class. They propably ment "boyz". However, if a shoota is one of the basic classes and can't advance to multiple trees of specialization==> stikkabomba/slugga/'ardboy etc, then I will be a bit disappointed should they decide to limit the f2p players to shoota boyz only.
  9. Well they have said over and over the "Ork Boyz" would be for the FTP players, and all the premium/paid classes would be Nobz. So I dont comprehend how they could now say that "Boyz"(to include melee and or ranged) are one of the basic classes for premium/paid players.

    I totally respect their transparency and it's refreshing to see their open approach and interaction with the community. And I do understand concepts evolve and change over time. Perhaps we just need a bit more clarity on what the Shoota class will be capable of. Perhaps "Shoota" was a typo? Perhaps you can load your Nob up with 2 or 3 melee weapons, heavy armor and a big ass shield and make the coversion to Ardboy? Or you can load that same Nob up with medium shootas, or combi weapons, or a burna or rokkits and make them a ranged class?

    I probably should clarify that the humor of the ork faction should be for the benefit of the ork players, the other factions should see them as intimidating and dangerous.

    Also i don't think orks are in danger of being steamrollered especially if the premium players act like mobile spawn points.
