Another New Arrival

Discussion in 'Introduce Yourself' started by Hereticool, Dec 4, 2015.

  1. Hi All,

I'm a new arrival to the forums but I have had my eye on this game for a while now. I am very excited to see this game released and get a chance to play!

I was introduced to the 40K tabletop game in 1988, I've played nearly all of the spin off games (table top, video games, RPGS), read a heap of novels and have an unhealthy obsession with the 40K universe.

I used to be a primarily PC gamer, but when my limited edition copy of Space Marine refused to run faster than molasses, and I received no tech support, I loved the game so much I went out and bought an xbox360 and repurchased the game. I played Space Marine for years, and my love for that game was only surpassed by my obsession with Dark Souls (and everything created by Hidetaka Miyazaki), which is why when the next gen of consoles was released I switched to PS4 (for Bloodborne and likely future exclusives by Miyazaki).

I'd love to take part in early access, but I don't have a PC that will run it, and so I will have to wait patiently for the console release while watching everyone else have all the fun!

Picking a faction will be difficult for me. I am a huge fan of the Raven Guard, and the Alpha Legion so I'll likely play either or both of those sub-factions (provided they are included in the game). I took part in some organized play with Space Marine where I was a member of the Alpha Legion. Having played nearly every race in 40K (other than Tau and Necrons, which since I have been playing so long I still consider them "new"), I could definitely see myself giving various factions a go. I'm a big fan of the Sisters of Battle, so hopefully they'll make it into the game at some point.

I have to say that after looking at what has been revealed and discussed by the Devs here and elsewhere I am truly impressed and extremely excited! I usually try and keep my expectations low so that I am not disappointed, but this game looks like it is going to be phenomenal and continue to thrive and expand.

Having recently played the beta of Star Wars Battlefront and seen how short of the mark they fell with the game mechanics, I am really looking forward to release of Eternal Crusade. Especially since there hasn't been a good 40K game I have seen since Space Marine.

Since I won't be paying upfront to be a founder (since there is only a PC option) I don't know whether my opinion will hold much weight around here, but I'll take part when and where I can. It will take me a bit to get caught up with all the info already announced and revealed, so forgive me if I am oblivious to what should be obvious.

Hey there! We of the Cult Mechanicus welcome you to these sanctified Forums!

    Dark Souls?Damn...

Well...you are a vet.My complete age does not add up to your vast experience with 40K.From `88th?Damn!

Space Marine?I purchased the damned thing on Steam, but couldn't run it.Three years later on a new PC I make it work...but servers were empty so I mucked around on campaign and scraps of multiplayer that I could find.
Yeah...shame about Battlefront 3...but EA found a way to fuck it up.When I saw that price-tag with no viable campaign...pfft.
    Whom am I kidding?Star Wars plebs!40K rules!
    Check these out:
    Warhammer40K:Armageddon
    Warhammer40K: Deathwatch

Both came out after Space Marine...and both are good.
I am waiting for a few very awesome 40K games that should be out soon :p

    Anyway,welcome to the Crusade,
    Praise the Machine God!

  4. Thank you both for welcoming me to the forum!

Zeth, thanks for the suggestions on the games. I'm pretty picky about the games I like, so maybe instead of discounting all the 40K games since Space Marine, I should have just said that I personally didn't like the look of them. I haven't played either, but I watched some reviews and a stream of Deathwatch and wasn't impressed.

Games like Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels was great at the time, and Space Marine was awesome as well. When games come out years (or decades) later, I expect to see improvements in gameplay, story and graphics. The flood of mobile games has pretty much killed that. They are a different type of game, for a different audience. I'm sure there are people who might have been excited by the Eisenhorn mobile game trailer. I cringed. The game looks awful and to do that to an iconic character and story like that is heresy. Where are the Ordo Hereticus when you need them?

I'm not much of a shooter game fan, but if it is 3rd person and in a genre I love (40K, Star Wars, Aliens, etc.) then I will give it some serious thought. That's why I am so excited about Eternal Crusade. This looks like the game I have been waiting for... and still have to wait a bit longer for to see it released on the PS4. It definitely looks like it is worth the wait and is going to blow any other 40K game thus far out of the water. Personally I don't care if we "only" have hundreds rather than thousands of players on the same map. If the game progresses to that and it works, then that will be cool but won't be necessary to have an awesome game.
