This may go horribly wrong, but I'm going to try anyway. I have been coming up with an original setting, and was hoping to do an RP in it. I am willing to answer any questions you may have. Also, I have never really Gm'd before, so bear with me please. Premise In this universe, there is a Civil war going on between the forces of the United Terran Council (UTC) and a rebel group of planets that has declared war upon Terra and her other colonies. The players will be pilots, or Riders, of their own FRAME (mecha) in service to a loyalist captain. Things to Know: Each FRAME has a SOUL, an AI that inhabits the FRAME and acts as a companion to the Rider, manifesting as digital projections when outside of the FRAME. They will essentially act as a second character. They have their own personalities and are completely loyal to their Rider. The FRAME system would be similar to many other types of Mecha. You have a good amount of liberty in designing it. Types are as follows: Strykers - Mobility and fast-attack frames, Close Combat Oriented Bulwarks - Slower, more durable Frames, Defense, support Oriented Destroyers - Firepower-based Frames, Ranged Oriented For weapons and technology, there are blades and shields of solid light, and Shield systems small enough to surround a frame. Laser weapons are a-go. Kinetic weapons and missiles are still valid weapons as well. Beyond that, you can create one signature weapon or system. Everything must be portable, however, such as carried rifles and swords or hardpoint mounted weapons. As for loot, that will be salvage, which will be consumed by the Ship's mechanics to give Player-Requested additions to their frames. (Be they weaponized or simply upgrades to statistical things. Speed, etc.) For characters, there are different 'breeds' of huimans that you can choose from: Humans- They're, well, human. They do get a bonus to their likability, due to less prejudice against them. Anthromorphs- Ears and tail of base creature (Or suitable replacements) and a personality quirk that coincides with base animal. This includes a boost in an ability, such as increased stealth, speed, stregnth, that will be imparted upon their FRAME. Technomancers- Humans born with the ability to manipulate data currents, allowing for Field Hacking of enemy equimpment. This takes concentration, however. Also, each rider will have been scouted out by the captain of the ship for a reason that will be up to you. Distinguished service in battle, Prodigy Mechanic, Trouble-making delinquent, etc. Mechanics I am planning on a story-driven RP. Words stolen from @WanderingJester Essentially, during all direct combat scenarios and actions against the enemy will have overall structure from me but the details will be up to the players (i.e. I'll write something like "you can kill three guys, or two and strike at the mini boss" or the such, and allow the player to improvise how he kills them). If players would like to take some sort of direct action not offered, simply run it through me in PM or on this thread and I'll give you the possible results of that action. Wounds will work the same way in the Witcher RP, with light, medium and heavy. Light wounds are superficial, they won't affect a character's ability, but the player must acknowledge that they occur during the post. Players may also have the liberty of doing this on their own, though during some situation I will require this to happen to characters. Medium wounds will affect the combat capability of a character, either through a disability that prevents using certain equipment or just a decrease in effectiveness. Heavy wounds completely incapacitates the character; he becomes vulnerable to an execution move by an enemy if not aided by a comrade. Character Sheet (PM me) Name: Breed: (And base creature in case of Anthromorph) Gender: Looks: Personality: History: FRAME Details: (Type, Name, Weapons, looks, etc.) SOUL Details: (Looks, Name, Personality) Again, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, let me know Link to the RP: Starrunner (anime-esque Mecha Rp Thread)
Ok so I am willing to ask a couple of questions before I throw in a character sheet if you don't mind as I am curious where you might go with this original idea. first off how big is a mecha, is it a titan size like out of supreme commander or is it like powered armor on an infantry/vehicle scale? secondly how much control will we have over the 'souls' as such? will they be secondary characters we will control or that you will control?
gm wants me to post this, so here I guess. Name: Loran Kelley Breed: Human Gender: Male Looks: Loran Kelley was slightly above average height, with a fit physique. He has blue eyes and pitch black hair (typical side character in an anime length, since the UTC military's a bit more lax with hair here than in RL). He's actually considered pretty handsome by many, though he doesn't actually notice about that himself since he's detached from anything that doesn't have to do with his FRAME or his military duties. Personality: He had graduate valedictorian from his class at the UTC military Rider Academy from Terra, and had fought in two campaigns with an impressive record. Despite his achievements, he was only 23. Very militaristic and straight forward, Kelley's weakness is that he doesn't really connect with other people on a personal level. However, this focus has made him an extremely competent FRAME Rider. FRAME Details: VOID RIPTIDE is Loran Kelley's FRAME, assigned to him during his graduation from the UTC Academy and awarded to his ownership after his last campaign with the fleet. The stryker model FRAME is painted as black as space itself to blend into the background, with blood red lighting system where appropriate. A whip sword attached to its right forearm with two modes (straight and whip) while a laser sword can be activated from its left. What makes it special was addition of extra thrusters on the FRAME that gave it an increase speed even over other stryker models as well as its signature weapon. Void Riptide has a chain cutter that runs through its entire body, including its limbs and "neck". When activated, it spins at a speed and power that allows that chain to rip any foreign object it touches, be it metal from another FRAME or the armor of a monster. This makes it near impossible for anyone or anything to grab a part of Void Riptide without losing that appendage. Kelley's signature when finishing off a particularly specific opponent is to use his paintjob to come within as close as a distance to the enemy, then use his FRAME's superior speed to close and pin the opponent to Void Riptide with a "hug." Once that happens, the chain cutter activates, ripping apart the opponent Void Riptide presses itself and the opponent together, shredding the enemy into multiple pieces. This is particularly terrifying as Kelley likes to also drag an opponent into a shadow cover as this is happening, whether the dark side of an asteroid or a large crater on a planet. The FRAME also sports the stock shielding system. Kelley had requested for a stealth system on his FRAME before being transferred to this new captain in the UTC. SOUL Details: Veronica is a young woman in full military attire. Her blond hair is done up in a bun with a few strains hanging in front of her right eye together. She has a quite pretty hologram for a SOUL, though it may seem at first she takes after Kelley, she ironically shows connects more on a personal level with interactions with other people and SOUL than Kelley does most of the time. Veronica does have a strange crush like feeling for her Rider, though he's so preoccupy with his FRAME during his time with her that he never really notices. This has cause her to be condescending and sarcastic when an actual physical female whom she deems pretty is around Kelley, but only to the female(s) in question.
Say an average of 50-75 feet Tall. Also, controlled by body movements and mental commands, not joysticks and other controls. The SOULs are fully player-controlled support characters. They have their own personality And are completely loyal to their rider. The only stipulations are that, barring an emergency, they can only materialize near their Rider, or be housed in the FRAME during combat. In combat they act as advisors and co-pilots. Does that all make sense? [Edited: changed size]
A bit of Extra information regarding SOULs: The SOULs are AI that reside inside the FRAME. SOULs can only take control of systems and routines specified by the Rider. In an emergency, such as an Incapacitated Rider, The SOUL will take complete control, but will focus only on escaping the situation. When outside of battle they act more like humans, although they are aware they are not. In battle they can take on a more computerized persona to assist in situational awareness. Outside of combat, SOULs can either stay housed in the FRAME, or be out and about as a Hologram. However, they can normally manifest only near their Rider.
