The issue is that you need a very good Sorcerer player to actually support properly, while all it takes for an Apothecary to be useful is a player that knows that you can revive with Narthecium. Then he can just run around and revive people with full HP. Obviously, it's not that OP to make SMs win all the games.
Sorcerers are still quite incomplete, so I'm not too worried about the weak state right now. More warp powers and accessory systems are yet to come. I believe sword-wielding support should not receive the 10% health nerf. Getting one-shotted from behind in melee everytime sucks. Also now that we have a melee force system, it may be possible to buff melee support defense (weapon strength/durability bar), without also increasing their melee offense, if so desired.
Noones saying Chaos cant win or that Sorcs are utterly useless, i won numerous matches with a Sorc and i play him and the Apo almost exclusively. The discussion here is that when the two are put together side by side, in their current state, the Apo simply greatly outpreforms the current Sorc in the support role, both in DPS and actual support.
Sorc needs more risk to reward type deals. Like channeling heal gets faster the more you stay on target but you start draining your own hpin the process. Also have the link up option of allowing multiple sorcs to heal the same target but only to a certain point. Like maybe x amount of healing then target gets a 30 sec debuff preventing further healing. That prevents a single guy from tanking the entire other side. Offense same risk to reward. You get closer to target with stream of corruption you do damage faster. Doombolts do need to be added. Sorcs should also have aoe buffs that temporarily improve teamates based on the sorc's mark with a slight debuff when it ends.
...lol, what about myself, who has an excess of game time saying that the sorc is alright, lackluster, but alright when most of my time is still in sorcerer and apothecary, the rest mainly assaults...ill take Brent's suggestion of increasing the downed healing speed, but it's only been an issue when it was like the stream, would look like it was working and isn't. There was a time where folks complained about him being a healer and he shouldn't be healing folks because that's not the Chaos thing to do, now he should be a notable healing force because he should be cut from the same cloth as the apothecaries? Apothecaries current heal is supposed to be top of the line, heal and hot, Grigdusher hasn't been yanking folks chain on that, apothecary is a healer, that's his job, then he was spammed and received a 10% reduction in damage to his bolter and sword...which people have said should be lifted, so now some see why it's there and some others will hopefully realize he isn't as effective in combat. Then he also has less survivability, like the sorcerer admittedly, so the spam is kinda silly.
10% reduction on a Bolter is pretty meaningless. Average death from a Bolter is probably 8-10 shots depending where they hit. This would just mean that an Apoth would kill you in 9-11 shots, hardly hindering considering it's a full Automatic and cranks that off in the same time frame as standard Bolter. Factor in Headshots and Apoths with killer aim are no worse than a Tactical shooting. Meanwhile...back at the CSM Ranch with snot beams....
I moved on to gothic armada, games become nothing but shield-bros and apothecaries, ill be back once thing get a bit more balanced
I know they are planning on adding an AoE aspect to Corruption, but honestly I hope they just make it a loadout option. It would be nice to have the ability to change how the spell functions with the loadout, make a cone, ball, or stream like it is now
Good example for that in my last game: Spawned in a ridiculous location once more and ran into a group of four SMs, one of them an Apoth. Element of surprise on my side I was able to gun down two of them and got into a firefight with the third to just be mowed down a few seconds later by the other two. Stupid to go full on into 4 v 1 - definately, but it's just an example of how fast Apoths can get their folks up.
I like the sorc how he is, and I think we're forgetting how alpha this is. Eventually the sorc can take a mark of nurgle. Even if the effects of that are nerfed for him (because hey, nerfing supports is cool or something), he can still become a damage-resistant self-healing buffer/debuffer melee thing. Way more things to come to him, so why are we comparing apples v2 to oranges v1? Edit: Yes, I know the sorc will be able to get all the marks (excepting Khorne)/more spells/etc. But we know nothing about those, so the MoN is a good example of what the sorc will be, not just what we speculate he can be.
