By, for example, NOT FIGHTING A CHAOS SPACE MARINE IN SINGLE COMBAT. It's not rocket science. Everything in the Guard is designed for use en masse. Even thinking about fighting anything in single combat is doing it wrong. Depends. Do you mean from a lore perspective or just would I like to see it? Because if it's the latter, oh hell yes! ------------------- As for the incorporating Imperial Guard or Sisters into an overarching "Imperium of Man" faction, I will only support it if each is developed to the same extent as the Space Marines. A token troop or vehicle choice or two isn't even a concession-- it's barely even lip service. But then we're back to the 80% pop problem.
My point is, if they're doing it that way, they're doing it wrong and they should expect to lose. You do realize that not every faction in this game is going to be good at the same things, right? It's the whole point of asymmetric balance. ...Unless of course that's what you meant by "I'm definitely interested in the possibility this idea entails"-- that you would like to further explore proper development of asymmetric balance and not simply dismissing the Guard outright. In which case, I'll admit that I missed that line in your post when I quoted it; I was too busy not giving you enough credit if that was the case.
Ah, so noted. My mistake. I appear to be doing the whole "rabid dog" thing again. Probably time for me to get to bed for a bit. But yeah, thanks. Enjoy your day, as well.
The nice thing about a fictional universe is that you can take a lot of leeway in making a story that does what you want it to do and having it still fit the universe as a whole. Gameplay, on the other hand, is not so forgiving. IG could be represented by a task force that was betrayed during the heresy, made an emergency warp jump that went wrong, and popped out ten thousand years later thinking that all marines are traitors. Now you have a popular faction with a reason to fight everyone else and the lore is still preserved.
And where would the Tau come in?They arent a sub-faction of anything, and while they dont mind allying with most factions, the feeling isnt mutual. Lets be really honest here gentlemen, the playerbase is already going to be divided and unbalanced. The SM will be overpopulated. The Eldar will be underpopulated. So not adding a 5th faction for fear of faction unbalance is nonsense.
I agree. By the nature of the game, the factions will be unbalanced. And what's more, BE already said that this will be taken into account by making it harder for big factions to defend their territories from all sides.
