It's a pretty great game to be honest, although not for everyone. It's pseudo realistic (but not on the Arma series level) so expect to die in one shot a lot. The trick is to not rush around a lot like in most fps's, since it's harsh. There's some great community maps for it, gun play feels good. DEATH noises are amazing and the first time you'll hear them you'll cringe. (ie soldiers bleeding out and screaming for their mother) I definitely recommend you pick it up. As for the bullet/magazine argument - I think belts/drums should be both cosmetic and upgrades/sidegrades somehow. Or perhaps just sidegrades.
drum or belt or backpack could be a choice for heavy bolter players. each with benefits/drawbacks. Im for magazine system. but ammo shouldnt be shown as a umber unless you upgrade with ammo counter. maybe just a loading bar for a general feel as base. magazines system can add customization too. players could carry different types of mags, and load different types of ammo so you could carry 4 mags of standard, and splurge on 2 mags of hellfire. opens up sternguard type characters who want to have ammo for every situation
Mags. It'll feel more realistic and stop people from reloading behind cover every time they fire a couple times. And I love the idea of special ammo. Make it cost requisition/resources per magazine - perhaps different cost for different weapon types (i.e. special ammo for your bolt pistol should be less than for a Bolter because there's few rounds in the mag).
Nah... it's all fairly out of Lore. Orks for example, are the only ones who can use their Shootas. Since on a mechanical level, it shouldn't work. It's their belief that it works that makes it work. Latent psychic powers and whatnot. The same for their Ammo... If they believe there is more ammo... there is. I've yet to find an Ork that thinks he is out of Ammo. What a tedious subject, right.
I wonder how restocking the heavy bolter pack would work in this game...? It would be cool if they showed us how that worked, perhaps they have to have like two servitors to help a marine get the pack off and refitted?
as cool as going to a terminal to have the servitors load on a new ammo backpack, that sounds extremely impractical and annoying when on the front lines. unless they could do it from a rhino or something i'd rather not. have a feeling they'll be using drums for the HB and not backpack.
