I think you have the wrong game. Battlefield uses the bullet system. See attached image.

Having a Mag system is irritating. It would make sense for traditional weapons like bolters, however for weapons that don't have their ammunition explained or don't use ammunition at all, a bullet based system is better. There's no reason to have such a pet peeve against reloading when your magazine isn't fully empty, it's simply keeping as many bullets as possible in your gun at any time.

It's like complaining that you can't reload a pistol one-handed--it just doesn't matter. Please remember that EC is not striving for realism. (It's 40K after all).

ORKZ DONT NEED TO RELOD DEY JAST BELIV DER MAG IS FULL
  3. Thought i've read somewhere that there'd be a certain X amount of ammo to use up, preventing people rangespam.

  4. correct, but a heavy bolter does'nt need to reload (I'm not even sure they can reload such a weapon on the battlefield) because they have their ammo in the back pack wich makes it a bit complicated to reload during operation

I imagine the heavy bolter and similar weapons would reload like any other machine gun. What kind of an idiot would design a support weapon that couldn't be reloaded in the field?

OH WAIT THE ADEPTUS MECHANICUS WOULD

    more like hurrdeptus derpcanicus, AMIRITE?

Depends on how the weapon is loaded. It could be loaded on a belt (Which removes the need for a massive backpack) or drum magazine. The attached images are Godwyn and Sternguard heavy bolters which use a belt and a magazine.

Edit: Just saw that the Astartes Heavy Bolter can also use drum mags. I thought it did but I wanted to make sure.

    Correct.

Mercutian of First Claw of the Night Lords by Bowden frequently 'reloaded' his heavy bolter, generally after expending it all.

I am for a magazine type system. I've caught myself doing habit reloading and it just makes me feel dirty. I really like how it's handled in Red Orchestra, a magazine system, but if you hold the reload key, you 'check' the magazine/ammunition level.

You're then awarded with a system that says 'magazine is heavy'
    'magazine is half empty'
    'magazine is light'

I would like to see something like this implemented, mostly because it would give a chance for melee specialists to close the distance. If you suddenly pull out a magazine that only had three shots left in it, sucks to be you because here comes that assault marine with his chainsworddssss. ;)

  8. Im currently playing WH40k Space marine and what i see in the model (and they seem accurate to me) is that Chaos Havoc and Space Marine Devastator use different loading for the weapons.
The Heavy bolter: Devastators use a Belt but Havocs use a drum. Ingame there is no difference but I think it should be Drum - faster RoF limited clip good reload, Belt less manoeuvrable no reload slightly less RoF.
Its the same for the Lanscannon: Devastators use a belt to power it, Havocs use a clip like battery.
This however I think should be tied in to weapon customization.
I have not gotten far in lvl so I have not gotten all unlocks to check further. The idea was there but never implemented (Sadly).

On Clip versus bullet system. I prefer the bullet counter. Its easier and in a game with 500 people per team GL finding ammo (its a pain in Space marine and there are only 8vs8). That said, i prefer a smaller ammo count in total even for Heavy bolter. 500 bullets with later upgrades to 600-700 max.
  9. ya good idea
the rate of fire shouldnt be affected by it since the weapon is responceable for it
but maybe if you are using a drum the weapon will not overheat but you only have like 50 shots per drum
and with a belt your weapon overheats after 60 shots constant fire but you have like 300 shots

I've seen RO pop up every so often in Steam and never considered it really, I think I've found a new game to obsess with until EC comes out, thanks! :)
