I dont believe what I´ve read. There is still hope. You know, we went from manipulating humans into manipulating Chaos, cause its more rewarding. Good to know things are going to change.
I have a few questions, not sure if they've been asked in the rest of the thread; 1. Did you "start" as SM? ie - were they the first race you played? 2. Have you had many hours in Alpha and did you play as many other races apart from SM if so?
3-4 from a braced Autocannon kills most players (regardless of range) vs around 15 rounds at close range from a Bolter to the back of a target taking twice as long to fire those rounds. I have been killed while dodging through obstacles in Harkus, near the north wall over by A, the Autocannon player was on the south wall of the fortress. Good luck killing someone with 3-4 rounds from a Heavybolter or Boltgun in that number of rounds from that distance. If you compare the damage output between the Heavybolter and Autocannon it is about the same, minus having to be behind the target when shooting them. Again 15 rounds or so from the Heavy Bolter to kill the target vs 3-4 rounds from the auto cannon. Yes I would say there is room for complaining about the Autocannon damage and accuracy output when comparing it to a Space Marine weapon.
I had about 40 hours in alpha. Admittedly, I didn't play much in late alpha because I was... well, waiting for the melee rebalance. Yeah. I played Chaos as well, didn't play Orks and Eldar until after release. But I'm not making any comparisons to alpha balance. Yes, I started with LSM in both. But I'm not just comparing how well I played LSM In The Beginning to how I play the other races now. I am fully aware that would be stupid. I'm comparing LSM now, which I have far more experience and hardware for, to the other factions for which I have less hardware and experience. The other factions are, straightforwardly, better. By the way, I don't deny that teamwork is a factor. It's just that teamwork only goes so far with unbalanced mechanics. If LSM git gud, and Eldar git gud, and they both have roughly equal levels of git gud, it's not going to help LSM when Eldar have higher speed and attack with similar durability. Sure, you can kill Eldar as LSM. But you don't have to be merely better to do it consistently, you have to be a LOT better.
I really don't feel like LSM are that far behind. I think it's mainly due to bad players are bad. Give it sometime and let people build experience up.
Teamwork is powerful, but let's take this scenario for example. LSM vs. Eldar. Both sides have equal amounts of coordination. LSM have piddlingly weak Bolters, and a nerfed Plasma Cannon and Heavy Bolter. Even the once-mighty Storm Shield is just a shadow of its former glory. Eldar have the extremely powerful Swooping Hawk, heals from a distance thanks to the Warlock, very powerful melee units, much higher speed compared to LSM in exchange for barely lower toughness, and extremely quick melee attacks. Considering that a vast majority of conflicts and point-caps take place in doors, the short range of most Eldar weapons and their great melee classes means an Eldar vs. LSM matchup with both sides having the exact same amount of coordination, game sense and teamwork... LSM lose.
The reason for my questions is that I did something similar to you but had vastly different results. I played one or two hours as SM before switching to Ork. Then after 30-40 hours of playing Ork I went back to SM and it felt like easy mode. I was wondering if you had played with SM, learnt the gameplay, flow and general mechanics of the game as them so when you played as other races they felt easier.
I suggest going back to orks and try their melee. Bonus points if equipped with burning choppa. Dbash hitting first even when starting out later, super fast charge attacks, now denying stuns by boosting if you are playing stormboy! I'm not even going to talk about eldar. As of recent I would much rather play against our slightly more diversely geared evil twin marines.
Oh I do play Orks mainly now. I've found the melee to be much better this patch too, Orks are a little slower and SM/CSM are a little faster than they were. I regularly get beat by marines in melee so I don't think it's as bad as it was.
