Read the persons quote: SKITARII LEGIONS. I never said anything about the other Ordos or Legions. Several of the ones you listed are also from the Heresy (30-33k timeline) and are considered to be so rare you would no longer see them in the battlefield outside of the Mars home planet and/or a very rare Crusade task force. Assassin cults are also considered to not be part of the Adeptus Mechanicus as they still originate from the Templum controlled by the High Council of Terra even if they serve the Mechanicus directly (one of the view lores heavily debated as both sides have lore saying they actually control it). The Robots from the Legio-Cybernetica would also be ruled out as they have seen very little action since the Heresy excluding the corrupted versions of the Dark Mechanicum. (Pending further lore releases from Games Workshop) The Ordo Reductor has no infantry of their own outside of the numerous Secutors and Myrmidon Enginseers and Tech-Priests who service them, their entire defensive structure is organized around the Legio Skitarii. The Thallax which would be placed under the Ordo Reductor no longer are viable as they are considered to be almost entirely discontinued since the Heresy pending further lore releases for the Mechanicum marking them as a 30k only unit. The only part of the Secutor classes that could even be considered (and even then they would be classified as Heroic Class choices) are the Auxilia Myrmidon and they only protect Adeptus Mechanicus installations that have already been established therefore ruling them out as a possible troop choice (unless) there is an STC thrown into the lot. So that means Thallax, Legio Cybernetica, Myrmidons, and infantry choices used by the Prefecture Magisterium are instantly ruled out leaving every single version of the Legio Skitarii that has already been listed and those of the priest hood who serve the art of war which was never covered as they are almost all considered to be elite troop choices or heroic in nature.
The Mechanicum are the only imperial faction I would play (unless the impossible happened and Ibram's boys were added), and I would only play them if they were their own faction and not a mehrine addon. But I can't see it happening for the same reasons as the Colonel-Commissar has listed. The majority of Mechanicum troops are of the wrong era or just to powerful to be considered "standard" troops. IMHO GW hasn't made enough lore for them to be considered as a faction (or sub-faction) in EC, and I can't see GW having their hand forced by EC on new cannon content (FYI for those who missed it EC will be 40k cannon). I really hope I'm wrong and at some point I can pull mehrines to bits with my mechandarites
How do you know that they are rare M41? The Sisterhood of Cydonia (novel Mechanicum) is a Heresy-era Mechanicum assassin-cult and the Acuitor Set (from Dark Heresy) is a recent assassin-cult. Neither owes allegiance to any institution outside of the Adeptus Mechanicus. They have seen action since, see Warhammer 40,000 Compendium p.97 The Auxilia Myrmidon is also used for hunting Hereteks, and they are by far not the only militant Techpriest faction. The Mechanicus-faction at EC could be * Standard: Skitarii Hypaspist (buffed version of an Imperial Guardsman), Praetorian (slow, tough, Heavy Weapons), Electropriest (fast, agile, fragile, absolutely lethal at short range), Techadept (healer) * Elite: Secutor (militant Techpriest) with an option to summon a Magos Sky Platform (sort of a Jetbike) so he can jump and shot; Master of Skitarii (specialized on melee) * Hero: Archmagos Militant * Walker: Siege Dreadnought * APC: Rhino * Tank: Malcador It's possible to patch an army-list together. Problem is, the AM has so many troop-types you can make almost unique army-lists for each faction. It has to fit story-wise.
I would know they are rare since all novels not listed by Games Workshop are not to be taken as cannon including those from the Horus Heresy series. Even when the authors are interviewed, they themselves have state that "...nothing we write is to be taken seriously, if anything it is a small glimpse from one angle into the Warhammer 40k universe. Sure we backtrack and trundle over each other (other authors) but in general we're basically re-creating the lore perspective in our novels." in interview from Graham McNeill regarding the Horus Heresy and other books. Unless Games Workshop themselves come out and say, hey the Adeptus Mechanicus have X,Y, and Z in large supply, it's considered rare if it barely shows up in their own lore. The Mechanicum novel is 30k not 40k where the game is taking place. The Adeptus Mechanicus doesn't have as many privileges as they had back then because the High Lords of Terra had only just been established and therefore weren't as powerful (but still very much as corrupt) as they are now. The source states "..been put to good use by the Inquisition and Marine (Astartes) forces but are ultimately under the control of the Legio (Cybernetica)..." it never states that they've seen massive action. Anything regarding the Inquisition is considered rare as hell and even their own wargear ranges from their only being one of the relic left in existence to standard issue hellguns for stormtroopers. Even in the article it acknowledges that "...since the Heresy their numbers have seen very few actions in large numbers and only a very small number are ever active at any given time..." that's a very bold statement saying they're pretty rare. If they aren't being fielded in large numbers, then they're most certainly not something the Mechanicus is willing to lose in a normal battle. The Auxilia Myrmidon in their own definition and I quote "...safeguard the Martian home-planet AND established Mechanicus worlds..." from The Horus Heresy Book Three (pages 204-205) Therefore they are rarely seen outside of a Forge-World and only in the events I listed, discovery of an STC or other xenos-archeotypes. Not saying that what you're going at is no good, just that most of the units outside of the Legio Skitarii shouldn't be considered as viable outside of anything as heroic unit class or extremely expensive elite units. I know as well as most that there's a ton of artifacts, wargear, and units that can/should/could be used in place of others or to supplement them but they aren't because there's no supporting lore that can make it viable. In my opinion, if you can't downright support it as being a common item or mainstay even for that faction, then it shouldn't be implemented.
