They are just painting a small symbol on one of it's pauldrons and one of the legs they aren't giving it a completely different color scheme that would mess with the machine spirit so just get out and let them paint one of your pauldrons and follow the tribune. Your knight will be in the vehicle warehouse when the briefing is done but you won't be needing it for the mission you'll have so you better grab your weapons on the way out.
