Magos Isidra's respiration slowed to within acceptable parameters. Her grip on the seat arms eased up and she began to survey the indigenous life-forms with a more detached academic interest. She found the biosphere to be a rich one, just as promised, and the possibilities made her cogitator chips sing with their own noospheric harmony as the drank in data.

"Excuse me, but could you perhaps take another sample here? I would like to start the plans for the first vox-tower, but I am just not sure whether my eyes lie to me or not regards the soil quality. Your instruments should do quite the trick for me, if you would be so nice." The blonde Erin inquired with a soft smile.

"Of course," she readily acquiesced. "We should begin to find sites for deployment of the antennae and a suitable camp for our base." She turned to the more martial members of the group, knowing her own ability to assess the danger of the site might be compromised by her desire to gather input. Horses for courses, as the old Terran saying went.

"I would suggest we find a small rise to camp on, and create a perimeter with electrical protection," she offered, "do we have the means to electrify a perimeter?" she asked.

"Observation: caution would be prudent, Inquisitor" Magos-Errant Judarius Kraven warned via his droning vox-coder, as he scuttled up to join Steele in his observation of the lumbering creature. His quartet of Protectors remained at a respectful distance, not wishing to antagonize the Inquisitor's retinue.

"Rumination: The creatures with the most harmless appearance are generally the most dangerous, in this one's experience" he intoned, taking in the creatures bio-signs with his optic augmentations. He surmised that there was nothing immediately obvious to mark the lumbering creatures as dangerous. He would advise caution all the same.

The fluid in the myriad of pools appeared harmless as well. Though unnaturally viscous, it did not appear to be caustic or bubble as if undergoing some form of natural reaction to the environment. He'd make sure someone tested it though, just to be sure.

In the mean time, now that he was within close proximity to the Inquisitor, he could collect the data he needed.

Judarius initiated a full body scan of Inquisitor Steele, so that he could construct a dossier file. His attentions would not be intrusive, as to prevent his subject from being aware of his scrutiny. At first, Judarius focused on the basics: Steele's height, weight, skin tone (not that there was much of it), eye colour and distinguishing markings. None of which was particularly interesting, but it was necessary information.

With that done, Judarius moved on to the Inquisitor's equipment and attire. Which was far more interesting . . .

The fact that Steele had managed to survive such an array of injuries was truly astounding. His level of augmentation was . . . impressive, to say the least . . . and of the highest quality, not that such a thing was a surprise, for a servant of the Ordo. The range of implants, combined with a deadly array of powerful weapons, made Judarius incredibly nervous.

Steele would not be a simple matter to deal with, as he had initially anticipated. He had assumed that the Inquisitor's armour was merely a protective precaution, not a means to hide such a high level of augmentative surgeries.

Judarius was woefully unprepared to put the Inquisitor down, if it came to that. He would have to find more creative means . . . but only if necessary.

Besides, there were more then a few ways to deal with a superior opponent then mere strength of arms. Especially one with so many augmentations . . .
  3. "Electrodes ready. Charging up." Ohm states as he starts to build up frenzy within his soul. Rubbing the copper covered palms together and reciting religious hymns, the coil on his back whirls up, generating steadily raising charge of energy. Electoos around his body light up rhythmically. Once ready, Ohm bends over and sets his hands on the ground, palms releasing the charge. Electricity isn't just for destruction. Motive Force gives life to all creatures in the universe, anything living holds a charge of it within themselves. Spark of Motive Force reacts to another one. Sending a wave of Motive Force channeled through him, Ohm can call out to sparks within creatures and plants in the area of effect, like a living echo sounder.

Law moves to the high land and spies down his scope. He uses his augmented vision to look around as far as he can see. He is scouting by vision to determine defenses and threats as well as to get a lay of what is around the group.

  5. Law sees that though the wastes of small ponds of the gelatinous material lies the purple sea and upon it in the absolute limit of the horizon there a two massive shapes that appear to almost be walking upon it's surface though from this distance it is impossible to get it in greater detail. The areas around the wasteland are dotted with the sack backed creatures that appear to feed upon the ponds and several small flying creatures dart around the landscape. The convoy had arrived at the very edge of this wasteland going into it by vehicle would take more energy than it would to simply go on foot. To the east is the plains the came from and to the north eventually you would end up in the North Pole. Perhaps a base built underground would do better than one on the surface as their current weaponry never the salamander's autocannon stood little chance against the creatures wondering the wastes.

76 trundled down the ramp and proceded to scan the horison with his eyes for any targets while speaking "if any heavy lifting is needed just ask"

"Mistress Isidra, I believe if we have the resources, ma'am. We should have a series of underground bunkers as our headquarters. There is no real other way to defend from the mass of these creatures effectively." Law spoke to Isidra as if she was his master. For she had been her master before and he trusted her judgement. He keep a careful eye on the young Magos and depending on how this mission goes deciding if he should put in to be promoted to protector of her.
  8. The current of electricity being funneled into the ground simply dissipates if there was anything that could conduct it it was far under ground and well beyond their capabilities and equipment to reach it. Though some of the arcs reach the pods and something interesting happens the gelatin like substance in the pods lurches and moves away from it the pools contained something living.

  9. The response, echo of Motive Force, was weak. Was this planet desolate of life? Blinded and relying on simple binary data, Ohm can't respond to the question nor valuate the amount of life around him. Grounding the image of surroundings only on this probing, Ohm could disillusion himself standing on wasteland, with bare minimum of life, mere tufts of grass spotting the ground. Colors of flora and shapes of fauna are privilege of those seeing, sensing Motive Force and receiving battle data from noosphere is what electropriest deserves. Ohm updates his observations, data which others will be quick to discard as false and junk information.

Isidra looked up as 76 arrived and figured the mechanised servant into her calculations. It should be possible to shift considerable mass with the augmented strength available. Perhaps some kind of -

Her cogitations were refocussed as Law added his informed opinion to her own.

"Mistress Isidra, I believe if we have the resources, ma'am. We should have a series of underground bunkers as our headquarters. There is no real other way to defend from the mass of these creatures effectively."

The young Magos nodded thoughtfully, her sampling mechadendrites already assessing the relative structural integrity of the substrate as she pondered his suggestion. It seemed like a much better idea.

"Subsurface encampment would be practical from a point of view of defence from predators and possible hostile weather conditions," she agreed. "In order to withstand the pressures of being walked over by such a herd we would need to have a minimum depth of -" here the data slate in her other mechadendrite helpfully flashed up a distance in metres.

Isidra did not presume to tell the more martially-orientated members of the expedition how to best prosecute their role; that was the point of taking specialists. She respected their Omnissiah-given skill and knew that they would all work together, much as cogs in a great machine. But she did have a certain amount of natural enthusiasm for exploration and showed in the alert scanning of her auxilliary senses and the jaunty set of her supernumary limbs.

"Erin," she said to the blond Transmechanic, "will we need to maintain a surface presence for communications purposes, or will our arrays carry through a certain depth of rock?"

"Electro-Priest, what do your examinations tell you of the nature of the subsurface levels? Will we find solid rock?"

She had other questions, but these would do for now. She began to sketch out suitable plans for an underground base of operations on one of her dataslates while another brought up plans from the standard missions manual for exoplanetary colonisation. It was an exciting time to be alive.
