I've found some players (always lascanon users) that when under attack and before they receive their final blow, they just redeploy. It's a bit...annoying. Blocking redeploy for 5 seconds when you're hit, will fix that exploit.
I've seen that as well, its only lascannon users-refusal of acceptance of being in the wrong place is real.
Agreed. Redeploy should be out of combat only so it's used for changing classes (in which case it shouldn't count against the ticket counter if there's a OOC timer applying) or to get out of stuck characters. I personally would put the timer at 10 seconds just to make sure somebody doesn't evade a legit death by rubbing a pillar or something.
I'd say give it a 10 second delay, like in Planetside 2. You hit redeploy and a countdown starts - any damage stops the process. As for them being Lascannon users... well, maybe they wouldn't do it if the Devastators/Havocs actually had sidearms or if the LC were a bit less shit.
Or if someone redeploys within 5 seconds of receiving damage the person who caused the damage gets a kill and XP awarded anyway.
I'd rather they prevented it outright. The really dedicated abusers won't care that they're giving you XP.
Fair enough this might seem like a weird question but what do the redeployers get out of it? Is it just the satisfaction of denying someone a kill or is there some other benefit to it I'm missing?
I'm old (mid thirties), so I'm inclined to reflect on my own behavior when I was much younger in an attempt to explain this phenomenon. I used to respawn myself just to frustrate the other player and protect my pride (I no longer remember what it feels like to have pride). My best guess is that it's not a calculated strategy. They're just salty.
Redeployment is a tactical useful tool that should stay at least by now. I'm not surprise by Eldar comment because we definitely do not have the same travel speed when jogging the battlefield. But it should only be used when "safe" redeployment under fire should not be enable.
Bad reasons to abuse redeploy: 1) Denying the enemy XP. 2) Denying the enemy satisfaction. 3) Sometimes faster than running around the map (when defending). Good reasons to use redeploy: 1) Being stuck and not having enough explosives for suicide So "tactical tool" aside I suggest keeping it, but making it more difficult for players to abuse it in combat.
