ADAD strafing cheese

This thread is a salt mine that will have zero impact on the game's future. So I'll just say why I like this thread : it's the prime example of the devolution of video games and their community.

Quake (for the FPS) and Starcraft (for the RTS) basically started all and are currently the epitome of skill in eSport (If someone wants more info and doesn't agree with me, I'll gladly explain why.).

However, they are just too difficult to maintain large and healthy communities, so less difficult and interesting games that bring money are the one working in eSport, like Overwatch (for the degenerative FPS) and Lol (for the degenerative RTS).

Paradoxically, the community is more toxic : in a times where games are just easy, immediatly fun and have less depth, it's more about skill, the other one cheating, matchmaking, stupid people and whatnot than what it was before.

The weirdest example comes from "realistic" games like ARMAs and such. You just have terribly slow games with nothing left in terms of individual options that even the few areas where those games are indeed more profound compared to Quake and such aren't worth the sacrifice of the rest. And the people playing it are condescendant in front of legend eSport games and their mechanics. Like our dear @Njord-Halfhand that doesn't know what he's talking about.

Eternal Crusade stands between everything I've mentionned before and isn't gonna change. The game is going to die and we should just enjoy it for the time we have left with it. However it's interesting to think about the balance we could find between all those different trends previously stated. And we should remember that Eternal Crusade tried to be innovative on many things and, in those regards, is just plain better than the degenerative kinds like ARMAs, Overwatches or Loles.

so you are saying that games like UT, Quake, CS are poorly developed games?

I mean you can have an opinion that those games are bad, because you don't like them, but saying that they were poorly developed is a pretty bold statement.

I think the point he was trying to make is that having ADAD strafing in games in 2017 is a hint at a poorly developed game, since that's more of a lack of programming options that made it a prevalent tactic in streamlined, popular shooters in the late 90s and 2000s.

    @Njord-Halfhand
Just show me where exactly i am having a seizure and when i start teleporting around.
Because i don't get what all the fuss is about .. i really don't..
You all must be playing with 300 ping or someshit for that to happen.
Also notice the moment i stopped doing it i got shot by a Lass Cannon shortly after -_-

@Catnium: I don't think that is ADADing very strongly. I will keep u from getting lascannoned, or shot from very far away, but its not the sort of 'seizure ADADing" that is "blamed" here.
@Viking: yes, 2015-17 games should be about other stuff than that, unless you want to go old school with your game of course. I remember Hawken, the game was great except for bunny jumping and ADADing, which kind of snuffed the fun out of the game ! It did make the smaller mechs survivable, so the "small mech class" really relied on that game mechanic.
A 2017 Hawken, for me, would erase these abilities and replace them with abilities like teleport, jet thrusting, I dunno cool animated actions to help you dodge bullets in a realistic, immersive way.

But I get it, some like the cheese, and hopefully enough to keep this game alive :)

    I remember Hawken =D
    Shame that game died.

    Orly?

Look thats how you ADAD. up close , from afar. Not strafing wider than your hitbox is is pointless . Ppl will just aim at ur centre mass and kill you.
It looks worse up close in CQC because you don't need to ads and can just hip fire which allows you to move faster and because math.. arching a circle at a smaller radius and all that. which is what MoS is all about . they even get a nifty icon with spread reduction while moving. so it's not like this isn't intended to be this way.

btw , why you stopped making video about the problems ? o_O ?

I like this guy. Also, for the sake of this thread, Unreal Tournament (UT4 to be specific), can involve ADAD strafing when it comes to hitscan fights. Guess we should remove that too since it's a "shitty mechanic" and force both of them to stand still right?

When it comes to my opinion on ADAD dancing, I think it works fine, it adds skill to the game and isn't all that powerful, sure it's better than standing still but it doesn't make you immortal, at most it'll let you win a 1v2.

When it comes to the general feel of Eternal Crusade, I think focus has been put in the wrong place. I'd rather the game be 40k than competitive but that's not going to happen, so it'd be an awful idea to remove the only things keeping the game from being god-awful, skilled mechanics, check out the link below if you want to see more of my (and others) thoughts on the 40k feel of EC. I'd rather see them work on some of the 'suggestions' I and others have listed in this thread: http://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/improving-eternal-crusades-40k-feel.66267/ worked towards, as unrealistic as it is to hope for.

In regards to what I said about coming to the game as a new player vs the perspective I have, I mean that I want this game to be 40k, not a generic third person shooter, I'm a competitive player by nature, I used to play CS 1.3 - 1.6 and played in scrims, I also spent 2 years playing Team Fortress 2 competitively at a Highlander Div 1 level and have a few 'e-medals' from it.

That being said, when it comes to Warhammer 40,000, I don't want a competitive game. I want the fun, absurd, brutal, dystopian, gothic, medieval, sci-fi-fantasy of the novels, short stories & other fluff, I want the factions to feel unique, with playercount limitations, class limits and balance towards the overall faction identity.

In my head, I have an image of what the game should be and I've done my best to try and put that out there in the thread linked above, but it is extremely unlikely that the developers will:
    A). Listen to me.
B.). Put together the manpower to implement any of these changes, even on the test server.

So you're spot on, there is pretty much no point making this game what it isn't simply because they don't have the numbers anymore. I really, really wish that bE hadn't pulled 70% of the EC team away from the project to go work on Star Citizen, because it functionally killed it. We were all just too stupid to realize at the time.

Other than that, when it comes to Marines being more sluggish, they'd still be able to ADAD strafe, just with slower movement speed, meaning they cover less distance if they attempt to ADAD as fast as say, an Eldar player.

Strafing more than likely came about, because people know if you stand still you die. If you move, you're harder to hit.

People need to understand in terms where this game sits, its an arcade shooter, not arma.
