Should E.C. have Achievements?

  1. Yes, I'm an Achievement Hunter and I MUST HAVE IT!

  2. No, I hate Achievements. They're pointless and dumb.

  3. Maybe. I don't really care, I just bought the game to play it, not chase achievements.

  1. Well that is where achievements aren't really achievements in my eyes. Now what you have written is probably overly sarcastic but makes a great point. For it to mean something and reward you with something, an achievement should really be something special.

I think having to watch SM ERP is something special, if not exactly in the good sense of the word.

Jokes aside, this is the point, really. To many games nowadays shower the player with waves upon waves of achievements for which you don't really have to achieve anything. There even are significant figures in the industry that claim games actually need these for the "new audience" because the latter does not even know the concept of patience and wants to be showered with sugar the moment they enter the game. It is one of the many things that have gone horribly wrong in the video game industry.
I do not strictly oppose all achievements, mind you. But achievements should actually give you a challenge rather than being the same old boring cookie-cutter stuff all over again, and most importantly, they should not act as a substitute for content.

  3. maybe we could even include archivements that would just be limited reachable

    hm something like
deal more damage then you have taken in your first 100 hours

would be a pain for archivement hunters i think :D

Cue five thousand "OMFG WTF BEHAVIOUR" whine threads on the forums.
  5. What I really miss from Vanilla WoW is seeing people with Sulfuras, Thunderfury or the AQ Gate mount and thinking "Wow those guys are pretty badass must be really good to have those". Whenever I finally got my
Thunderfury I had the 4th ever on Stormrage EU.

    That's kinda all gone now.

Achievements are cheap gimmicks created to induce a false sense of replayability rather than actually add more content to a game. It especially takes the piss when you get an achievement just for turning the game on "Well Done, You're Not A Retard" +250 nothings. Only time I have seen a good example of an achievement system was in STALKER Call of Pripyat, achievements were given for actually achieving something.

I like idea 'bout achievements. It add another reason to players trying harder in the game. And if we get many variants of achievements I think many player will be glad get reward for they explorations and feats.
    My answer - yes.
