I can't think of an MMO in the last 10 years or so that I've personally played that felt 100% ready at launch. I doubt EC will be either. MMO's are just such gargantuan development projects

I do hope they get the essentials and basics right though (you know, like the gameplay). That stuff needs to be polished to a shine at launch no matter what

In the last 3 years I haven't even seen non-MMO's that were ready at launch. It's just game quality on launch goes down. Look at all the Day 1 patches and DLC's.

  3. Eve does have dynamic server load balancing, but it was developed quite a while ago so naturally it's slower. I'm sure it has some hardware based load balancing which could also make it slower.

Advances in cloud computing and virtual datacenters have come a really long way and make these kinds of things possible. Another potential benefit of the software based load balance is use of cloud space for unexpected load issues.

Many websites make use of cloud computing during peek times of the year, like xmas for online stores. This allows them to not have to pay a ton of money maintaining all the hardware, but have an out for really high peek times. I have no idea if the pikko system is compatible with any of the cloud banks out there, but the fact that there is a possibility allows for reasonable investment in servers with out betting the company on being relatively close to right avoiding over investment in hardware.

I think you guys are on the right track. You get to avoid so many problems of region based servers like empty play area's when you play outside normal time zones for your region. Or popularity shifts leaving some servers empty and filling up others.

It's a great time for a game like this to come out. There is still a lot of room to try new things, yet much of the framework and concepts are tried and tested. I might even suggest reaching out to Universities with major data centers. It could really help cut down your development time by working with them on some of the concepts. They live in the space of trying new things in new ways for research, teaching, and learning opportunities.

Can't wait to see this in action. 40k is a niche market so it will be interesting to see how many jump on.

    Job well done Guys!!!

I like to see new tech being used instead of being shunned like most of the big companies do. As a technician myself I really enjoy seeing this in motion. Cant wait to see the system in action and I think the joy you guys will get after launch... cant even describe what I felt when I deployed new tech couple years back and it was a success.

Times like these makes me wish I had time to go and study all these new fun toys.

    Keep it up guys!!!

    Either way,
Pikko Server Tech is proven and that itself gives me closure on the question "Is E.C. on healthy foundations?". Sure, glitches can be expected, but in the long run that won't prove fatal to this Wh40k colossus. Honestly, the crew of Behavior Interactive Studious is doing a great job and it also works with other partners on early launch issues that might slow further development of the game, but ultimately this action MMO is on the right track with the right know-how and cutting-edge tech as means to deliver the goods to us consumers.

As Billy stated above: "Keep it up guys!!!" and that is my honest message to the Devs as well.

Like many other Wh40k fans, I've been waiting for this sort of action game far too long already.
Wh40k is a huge I.P. and as such its MMO media offspring will share an enormous player pool.
Pikko Server Tech is the way, but that's just my opinion. ;)

  9. ^^ Hehe. Yes, it's going to be great!

There will be battlefield mayhem in a few months ;) It's not 100% done atm (as is pretty clear from manual) so it will definitely be an incremental process towards bigger and better.

  10. Absolutely agree with dread i cannot wait till they start letting us join the fray with their current devs/testers and see how this system works first hand ! You guys are doing great i have utmost faith that this will be a grand step towards re introducing MMO's. I plan on playing this game for a long while if it turns out a third of what i think it would turn out to be! But still at the moment MMO's are at a decline its a pain to find an MMO worth getting addicted to and enjoying for the long haul.
We need this game!! and all of its glory to strike back with all the fury of the Emperor! MOBA's are taking over at the moment people are drifting from MMO's to play short matches with alot of instant gratifications due to fast lvling and lots of killing. I am part of this band-waggon also... but its not that i have not tried to get back into MMO's. As i wait for this game i mostly spend time watching the forums or playing Smite with my wife. But i have dl'ed 30+ f2p or p2p MMO's none can grip me as WoW did for those 8 years that i played. Probably only 3-4 of those 8 years on that game was i actually passionate about playing it. Now i drift from game to game... Iv seen the rise and fall of so many now it makes me sad.
Irregardless to how the game "looks" due to missing tiles and such on the handful of video cuts you guys have allowed out. It looks like it will be a blast. I play a little bit of Multiplayer SM once in a while its fun but your looking at the difference of a fire cracker compared to an atom bomb. Its like 8 players on each side ( i dont have any of the DLC i dont know if the other maps are larger) vs 500+ on each side ? :D It will be glorious! bE you make my dreams come true !
