A Way to Save Melee

  1. So melee is very difficult now due to the survivability changes. People die too quickly from range and from dbash range. What if melee got a range damage mitigation when in melee. It lasts for about 3-5 seconds, reducing range damage by about 50%. It takes effect after any clang or melee action that hits its target. So you have to hit or clang to "be in melee". Melee will last a little longer in groups and dbash jump spray with your gun wont be as effective allowing melee another chance. Thoughts, opinions, changes and suggestions please.

  4. -Durability changes are only a band aid on gushing arterial bleed. Melee has been broken at it's core because of so many various nerfs to melee weapons, melee attack ranges, and melee mechanics over the last several months.

    -Rock, Paper, Scissors as a concept is broken at its core because the transition from knife to Bolter is faster than the time it takes to Bash or use a Strong Attack. You see knife in hand one second and your Tactical opponent spamming knife attacks, the next half second their bolter is firing fully auto in your face.

    -Rolling or Backpeddling + Bolter both beat and/or outrange fast attacks and strong attacks in most situations.

    -Ranged classes have so many methods to counter melee. Bash, Bash + shoot, roll + shoot, bash + roll + shoot, bash + shoot, knife clang vs fast attack, knife fast attack shuts down strong attack, see strong attack coming backpeddle and shoot. The number of combinations of any of the above are almost endless.

    -Melee damage is abysmal considering the time it takes a Heavy Bolter, Autocannon, Bolter, Storm Bolter to drop a melee opponent from range. Also consider the additional time the melee player has to deal with Bash, rolling, clanging.

    -Rolling and shooting is too easy now because we can shoot right out of the roll. There used to be more delay after we came out of the roll, before we can ready and fire our Bolter. The result is the melee player has no advantage while in melee range because we can roll and shoot faster and further than the melee opponent can pursue and use melee attacks. Add to that fact nerfs to strong attack and fast attack ranges = Rolling + shooting FTW.

    EC Melee is dead. Somehow his bolter fires between melee actions, with an "ghost" shot finishing me in the end.

    Dunno what everyone is going on about. Melee is actually pretty good atm. Heck almost every melee weapon gets a one hit down with back stab damage now. Took a jump several times and got top three several times. I just act sneaky instead of doing glorious charges so many other melee players try to do.

    I've noticed in game that a surprising number of melee attackers still rely on spamming light attack to down enemies quickly rather than varying their strikes and using that sidearm they all carry. Melee is much harder if you play predictably.

    Well stop being predictable, Jeez Louise. Like be all sneaky like, get behind some git and BAM - Heavy in the back, finish him with quick light. Or two hit light attacks, your enemy thinks your spamming again, tries D-Bash but you ZONK - a counter with a heavy. Or you fighting someone with stronger melee weapon, like fist, or got a stalemate with claning all the time - roll back and a clip from Zip Slugga in his unsuspecting face (which I like to call it, since melee is something like Rock-Paper-Scissors - which EC made me more facinated on how complex this game realy is - Rock-Paper-Scissor-Pistol :D). That is why I love do the melee in the game.

    So try to think outside da METAL BAWSK and be unpredictiable :)

  9. Honestly I do not think melee is as bad as people say.
    Sure we could use a SLIGHT stun duration reduction from ranged classes but that's all.

    I am a very mediocre player and I still get my kills with Slugga (no shield) and Banshee.
    Yesterday I played against LSM and some GA with Power Sword and Plasma Pistol literally kicked our butt all the time. In the end one of them was on top of the killboard btw.

    Surely this type of gameplay requires a better combat awareness than just bracing a gun and bang bang.

    I would buff durability on all melees except knives by 50 atleast. That could be something to start with. In duels melee vs melee it brokes way too fast imo.
